I was wondering if anyone that has the Fisher Price Kid Tough camera can tell me your opinions of the camera and its pictures. I realize that the pictures will not be anything like my camera, as it is lower megapixels (and is much cheaper!) But i read some reviews that the images were so bad that you could not even see what it was? Did anyone find this the case? What about on the viewing screen on the camera?

I am thinking of buying one of the new ones that just came out but would love to hear what people think first!

Thanks!

The picture quality is pretty terrible. If the lighting is OK, you can tell what everything. It is very user friendly. My only issue is that it EATS batteries. I replace those things like crazy. I do love to see the world through my kids eyes and love to see what they deem important enough to take a pic of.

How old of a child are you buying for? I had thought about that camera for my DS, but we ended up buying a refurbed one from Kodak's website for about $65. It's a 4 or 5 megapixel with 3x optical zoom, plenty good enough for a 7-yo. He's pretty responsible though, takes care of his things.

We are looking for a 3 year old. I would love a "real" camera but they all have so many buttons that would I fear would just make using a the camera a battle of being told not to touch things rather than a fun experience. I thought maybe in a couple years we could handle more buttons. Thanks for the suggestion of Kodak's refurbs.

So can you tell me what you mean by ok lighting? Inside normal lighting? Outside or what?

I don't think it is worth the money. You can barely make out the picture most of the time. My son has one but he still wants to use my camera.

After complaining to my mother that my son was constantly trying to grab the camera, my mother bought him a FP for his fourth birthday. It was complete garbage. I could barely make out what more than 90% of the pictures were and that was the ones I TOOK! We returned it.

My sister did get her daughter one for her birthday this past Aug. She turned five. It was a V-tech. MUCH BETTER!!! she said the video feature is stupid and so grainy, but the pictures weren't too bad. She uses rechargable bateries because it seems to blow through them. HTH

I would agree with this statement. We have two, that my mom purchased for my boys...they play with them, but we never even bother to take the pictures off anymore since we can't even tell what they might be. It was a disappointment.

Ditto on that. DD has one of these and  it. The videos are bad, but if you just want it for pictures it's much better than the Fisher Price version. You can also find some basic digital cameras by other well known brands.

I did searching and then went to Toys R Us to try out the Fisher Price and the V-Tech camera. I also looked at the Mickey mouse one in the Disney store that was clearing out. It idd not have a place for a SD card, but did have a usb cord.

I bought dgs a V-Tech, he was 3. The pictures are great on TV and computer, we did not print any yet. He loves the slide show. But when I took pictures in the store with both cameras the V-Tech won hands down. THe kids and parents all love the part that has where you can add accessories like the pirate hat on the picture subject.

With out the SD card in he has over a hundred pictures already. I do have a scan card. It does not eat batteries up either as I bought a recharger and AA bateries Pack.

When you take the picture and view it in the screen it is real clear. I have not seen the TV slide show or CD the ds and dil have made but they are very happy.

THe camera is heavy, but sturdy to fall, drops, knocks off tables and shelves from very high up. The camera has two eye viewers or I think on screen too.
Because I see them line up the pirate hat and items.

THe dgs LOVES having his own camera. He actually takes really good pictures. I love when he first got it and looked at the sky, down at his feet and then every family member and pet.
What an enjoyable gift it is.

Sounds like we should go check out the vtech. I was not sure if this was going to be a good one because it had games on it too. I thought it might be distracting for her. I do like the idea that the pictures should be better though!

I have purchased, tried out, and returned pretty much all of the "kid" cameras. They are garbage. I mean, for $70 - $100 bucks you would think that they could make the photo quality at least okay. The picture quality on all of them is terrible. The flash works intermittenly, even indoors. And it has so much motion blur that if my DD moves the camera just a little bit, then the whole photo is just one big blur. All of the "kid" cameras are a waste of money.

I found a cheap, used 3 megapixel camera on craigslist for about $50. I made sure it did not have too many features. I got it when my daughter was 3 and she's now 4. She loves that thing and I do too. It was cheaper than the "kid" cameras and 100 times better.

I got her the Nikon 3200. I like the the lens extends from the camera, and so does my daughter. No more fingers in front of the lens. And she LOVES that there is a zoom and knows how to use it well. She also likes that it takes videos. This is a wonderful camera. My husband even borrowed it to take the San Diego with him on a business trip last week and loved using it (he didnt want to take mine because I have a big SLR camera).

I will never buy one of those kids cameras again unless I see some really huge improvements in them.

Well, both my boys have these and honestly I think they're really great. Low light pictures are not as good, but they don't seem to care. I know that the first generation model did have issues and picture quality was very poor. But they improved the model in 2007 and that one is better. It looks identical to the first model except the megapixels is a bit higher and the view screen on the back is larger. I have both the older and new version and I can see the difference. At any rate, we never really print the photos, they just like to take them and look at them on the computer. It's an inexpensive option for young kids. My boys are now 6 & 7 and they still play with them, although now they do ask for a more 'grown-up' camera.

Don't have any info on the v-tech, I'm sure it's great as well. I have quite a few v-tech products and love them.

We found the V-tech one on clearance for $13 last year after Christmas. For that price I'm happy with it. My friend's son has the Fisher Price one and it barely gets used, the picture quality is so bad. I don't think I'd be as happy with the V-tech one if we hadn't found such a good deal, it's ok but nothing stupendous.

My son has the Fisher Price camera and he loves it. The picture quality is poor and we would never make prints of his pics, but DH does download his photos onto the computer and he loves to scroll through his shots - even the ones of the ground, the sky, his brother's nostril, etc!!!

The games are things like tic tac toe and a memory game. Nothing big. The music gets to be a bit much, but I haven't thrown it away yet, and I can get VERY annoyed at noises like that.

We haven't printed yet, but DS has terrific fun with it, and loves adding Viking horns and things like that to the pictures. :)

70 to 100! We're shopping at different places! The v-tech was something like 20.

A little girl came into work today and showed me all the pictures on her fisher price camera. I could clearly make out the pictures of a catipillar and her baby sister on the cameras tiny screen. I am not sure how they would look on the computer or printed though.

If you purchase a Kodak or a canon elph just set it to auto and let the little one take all the pictures they want.

they can be had for $50.. one click point and shoot, and have viewable photos.

The "kid cameras" out their use QCF format which is 240X320 pixels.. basically the same pixel resolution as an icon on your desktop.

The packaging on the other cameras are horrible with spelling mistakes...

like even the product name is spelled wrong..

"Kids Cam" instead of "Kid Scam"

Thanks for all your input. I think we decided that we are going to go with a "real camera" that is suppose to be rugged. That way she should be able to use it for awhile. I like the idea that we could print out some of her pictures if we want to too. I am sure they will be unique perspectives!

BTW, the Vtech was somewhere around $70 when we looked too. I don't know where you get it for $20. That is a great deal!

If you have shoprite grocery store its on sale this week for $35
