Fish 'n Chips - Epcot or DDT?

My husband is from Scotland and is desperately craving proper fish 'n chips. It's one of the few things he's truly missing from back home, and he's been away for 4 years now. The "fish fries" that we get over here just don't compare, and I kind of feel the same, as I was kind of addicted to fish 'n chips when I lived over there for 6 years.

We'll be doing the DDP and I was planning on booking at Raglan Road, but since they are no longer participating in the dining plan next year in 2012, I'm wondering if we should should just book there and pay OOT or go to Rose & Crown and use the DDP.

Which place is better and will either place truly satisfy a homesick Scotsman's cravings?

I don't think you can assume that Raglan Road will not be participating in the dining plan in 2012. The restaurants that are not operated by Disney usually are not added until their contracts are worked out. This is generally not finished until December.

I don't think you are going to find fully "authentic" fish and chips of the kind you get in Britain in either place.

Oh, good to know that they might stil be added. Yeah, he's not hoping for completely "authentic" but is really hoping for better than what he's been getting (he's not a huge fan of the batter many places around here use + and not 100% keen on perch & walleye either) so "close" might do :)

I have had the fish and chips numerous times at Rose & Crown and they are very good.

Neither will be close. I am originally from Canada and I too can't find fish and chips here in the USA that even come close. Don't understand why restaurants down here don't serve white vinegar on the tables. Nothing better than a cone made out of newspaper filled with fries and then topped with fried fish.

We had the fish and chips at R&C but not at Raglan Road. It wasn't close, not sure what is up with the peas and the fries are nothing close to what I can get at a chip truck back in Canada. I find the best fries that come close are those that I make myself at home.

I have never found Fish & Chips as good or as satisfying as I did while visiting Scotland courtesy of the US Navy SSBN fleet (1979 - 1985). R&C is good, but I am forever on the hunt for the 'original'. May have to just plan a trip across the pond! Hope the lager is still warm.

We like Cooke's of Dublin because they also have meat pies. My husband misses the fried smoked sausage from our chippie in Scotland.

According to the PassPorter guide book, Yorkshire County Fish Shop (a CS in the UK pavilion) has genuine Harry Ramsden's Fish & Chips.

We've eaten Fish 'n Chips at both places, and I think I prefer the take-out beside Rose and Crown. It seems that I was able to get vinegar with them too, but it probably wasn't malt vinegar like I prefer.

Maybe that's part of the reason why my husband wants to visit Canada. His obsession with vinegar is even rubbing off on our kids. And chip vans are great!

Oh, mine does as well. He even misses the fried haggis, which I refused to try. Oh, we might have to try Cooke's, as well. He also loves and misses his meat pies

Oh, we'll have to stop there then :)

At least they have vinegar, which is a plus. For my husband tartar sauce is never an option :)

Just want to highlight this again. You could do the ddp at ragland road AND use a counter service credit at the Yorkshire County Fish SHop as stated above. Why pick 1 when you don't have to waste 2 TS credits to try both!

Not anymore. Harry Ramsden is no longer involved and the recipe has changed.

i have had the fish 'n chips at both places, go to Raglan Road. when you book your ADR's go with Raglan Road. they have a bread pudding there to die for!!! its out of this world!!!

Raglan Road currently has the better fish and chips. Rose & Crown has changed and isn't quite as good as when they had the Harry Ramsden fish and chips, but is still pretty good. The Yorkshire CS will be the same as Rose & Crown.

I had the fish and chips at Raglan Road a few weeks ago and I believe it came out in a cone and the server spread it on a plate at the table. I have no idea about white vinegar, mostly because I'm a very plain eater and don't even use the tartar sauce. My guess is it's probably available if you ask for it. Raglan Road claims to serve what they eat in Ireland. I'm not sure how accurate that is or how it may relate to Scotland. In any case, it's one of our new favorite restaurants.

We prefer the fish and chips at Cooke's by Raglan Road. They also have fried candy bars that are pretty good as well.

Inside RR we like to sample the fried sausage appetizer.

At Epcot, we usually order fish and crisps at the Pub. The fish is great and we prefer the homemade crisps over the undercooked fries. The pub/bar area has a small menu but a nice selection...scottish eggs, cheese plate, bangers and mash sandwich. We usually dine here while watching the Hat Lady.....very nice evening. The pub does not take the dining plan but does honor Tables in Wonderland

I'm english and the fish and chips at Raglan road were tasty and proper fish and chips. I'm sure your husband would find them comprable to back home.

It's usual for raglan rd to be confirmed later to dining plan as not disney owned.

I would give table service a miss and go for Yorkshire Fish Shop and Cookes of Dublin if he wants 'authentic' fish and chips- particularly Cookes at DTD- although it's a little bizarre having a Bud as an accompiament :confused3
