Fish extenders are back or breaking the rules?

Am I mistaken or are fish extenders currently not allowed? I just finished watching a youtube vlog of these twins giving and getting fish extenders gifts in the fish extender decorative pockets hung on doors in the customary fashion.

In our cruise group, for a January sailing, we had decided not to risk it. The wording that DCL currently has seems like they would much rather not have random people moving all around the sleeping quarters throughout the ship. So we had decided to have an exchange at Castaway Cay.

Do you know if the gifts were between just, say, a couple of rooms (family), or a large group?

Yes, FEs are currently on the "no-no" list. Well Fish Extender EXCHANGES are banned. FEs as decoration, not really. But, of course, there are people who think rules don't apply to them.

That said, I can't find anywhere where "Fish Extenders" are not allowed on the DCL site.

It’s under the ‘know before you go’ section-

Im perfectly ok with no FE cause it’s a huge waste of time, money & effort that sees very little return..

But I found some cruise groups feel they are above both the written and spirit of the rules.
There is zero way to guarantee everyone in a ‘exchange group’ even makes it aboard and whether it’s magnets or putting the gifts on the door vs the extender is still having people in hallways they don’t need to be in..

I enjoyed the FE exchanges we had on our first cruises. They were fun. But we stopped doing them when it got to be a contest to see who can give the "best" gift. That was also when rules in FE groups got so particular:
No gifts under $XX
Must give a gift every day
Must deliver your gift on XX day(s)
Put (giver) names, so people will know who gave them what

"Back in the day" FE exchanges were just little items that were more likely than not to be something handmade, or an item unique to the givers home location. And giving them anonymously meant no one got bad mouthed on the cruise meet thread after the cruise was over.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I'll share that I've participated in Fish Extenders during 5 cruises in the past 5 years, and have never seen any of those rules even suggested for the Fish Extender group. It's always been gifts of the givers' choice (some people go all out and others do dollar store stuff, and I've never seen complaints about either, just people saying a polite thanks for the gifts), and also the giver's choice when & how many gifts to deliver, no rules about labels, and certainly no rules about dollar minimums- that would be really crass & I've never seen it.

I hope with the loosening of restrictions that is currently taking place onboard, DCL drops the FE prohibition. It will be fun to exchange gifts again, and to see the different FE holders in the hallway again. So many creative ones- love the spirit of Disney travelers!

I think if it was decorating but not FE some have been out. I m thinking of a banner to help my Parents find the room. If they are on the right deck, ugh.
I've not seen anything saying that they are allowed. Personally I wish the ban was enforced and permanent - I think they make the halls look junky. :(
I felt RC’s halls were sterile and cold looking. Like I was going into a doctor office or worse a government building. I like the eye candy better. Not all doors, but some are nice.
I respect your views though.
