My first trip is planned for January 2nd-8th! Will there be anything special going on since Christmas would have just passed? Like will the decorations still be up?

We'll be there Jan 4-9!

The CM that booked our reservations said it was really a great time to go, as we will get a little bit of both "seasons". The Holiday Time decorations will be taken down on the 6th and then the regular season will be in place. So, prior to the 6th the holiday parades and entertainment will be taking place. Then, after the sixth the parades and entertainment will switch to the regular season stuff.

Wow thanks, that is really exciting to know! :)

We went January 2014 at this time and its great!!
Do HMH as it will be down as of the 6th for the rest of your trip to refurb back to the regular HM.
You will also get to see IASW in the holiday form and it will be that way your whole trip.
Catch the X mas parade as its amazing, but we found last year it does not switch right to the other regular parade (but try to catch F! and WOC)!
You will get the Xmas décor (which is beyond amazing) and at the end will get regular Disney (which is also amazing).
You will find the crowds pretty heavy but not to crazy (between 15-45 minute wait for most rides).

Have a magical time!

Also the AP blockouts end on the 4th and 5th and those days will be crowded.

Thanks for all of your tips and help! It is definitely noted :)

Through roughly Jan 4th-8th, I wonder if all the rides will still be up? What point in January do they usually go down for refurb?

All I know is that the holiday season is ending after January 6, 2015. So, as of 1/7/15, Haunted Mansion Holiday should be closed, Viva Navidad will have stopped running, Winter Dreams should be over, the Jingle Jangle Jamboree should be closed or getting the décor removed, and the Christmas parade and holiday fireworks should be over.

It's a Small World Holiday will continue on, most likely, through mid-January (not sure of what the end date will be).

As for any other rides going down for refurb or anything else closing, I'm not sure.
