Making time for one more of these before bed tonight
Ah Beach Club Villas, the resort i almost lost my mind trying to get a reservation at for Epcot Food and Wine and the pool on a hot summer day
We just completed an amazing BWV stay and we walked right on over to BCV. I was impressed with how close they were to each other, I didnt know we'd be able to just walk over in a few mins. This made me excited that I could visit the boardwalk again!
Our first day we hopped right over to SAB while waiting for the room to be ready. I wasnt looking forward to this "Sandy bottom" pool as I hate sand and the fact that it gets everywhere. But this sand was... different?? It was so soft to the touch and rolled right off of you. Can someone verify if this is man made, because I loved it!
Heading down to the lazy river, it was a bit disheartening waiting forever to grab a floatie. Why didnt they put out more?? I was happy once I grabbed one of those lounger ones and I was on my way! People were not kidding that this lazy river is really lazy!! I wished it would speed up a bit more!
Floating along, I smiled at an elderly woman i had seen at Epcot the other day. She was by herself having the time of her life. All of a sudden, she just slipped right off of that floatie and went down into the water. What the hell!! We waved our hands and the lifeguards responded quickly. She was taken out of the water and they took turns doing CPR on her. I was in shock. It seemed like nearly 20 minutes had passed or perhaps time seemed to just stop.
She was unresponsive and I closed my eyes and began praying, Please let her breathe again!! When I looked again I noticed she was breathing! Thank God!!!! And what amazing, well trained, responsive cast members. I was in shock and awe. They literally brought this woman back and saved her life in front of me! Needless to say, the lazy river was closed and i was a bit traumatized. The entire pool had a somber tone after, understandably so and, well, what a day, day one was!
The room was a bit bland, but we're huge Donald Duck fans so we liked the Murphy bed and our balcony had a view of the fireworks! This was a nice surprise as we've never seen the epcot fireworks! We enjoyed watching it that night with some coffee and the beds were comfy and we slept peacefully
I found the food to be underwhelming at this resort and I wished there were more/better options. I don't eat seafood so Cape May dinner was out. The character buffett was just okay to me, nothing really stood out as far as food for me, including those sandy bread buns everyone talks about. I hate to say it, but quick service was just not good. I'm glad there were other nearby options at different resorts!
Many more issues soon followed. Some family members were coming to stay the next day and we wanted to impress them with the rooms and our membership! I spoke with housekeeping and booked a full room cleaning and paid the fee to make their stay comfortable. When we got back from dinner, the room looked...worse.
There was water all over the kitchen floor, the dishwasher was running and the room wasn't cleaned. What the heck happened?? I called and they said they would send the housekeeper up. What she said didnt make a whole lot of sense and came with some attitude, but basically that they didnt tell her she needed to do a full cleaning and she thought it was just making the beds and a few other things. Hmm.
Apparently the dishwasher was leaking so maintenance was called. Bad news, broken pipe, cant be fixed and we would have to be moved and the room out of commission. We were so bummed. Dinner plans were missed dealing with it. It was really hard to get a hold of anyone at this resort. Communication between the departments seemed to be off and they seemed too busy to really be able to handle everything. More bad news, the villas were fully booked and there wasnt any villa to move us to tonight!
They tried to get us into the hotel side, but I wasn't having it. I used points for a villa, I didn't want a hotel room. BCV quickly turned things around, however. The manager told us we could stay in the room for the night and move to another villa tomorrow and that it would be connected as a 2 bedroom lockoff with our other family tomorrow. That's pretty sweet! But the true icing on the cake was the manager telling us how all of this was unacceptable and refunding us the equivalent of our points in cash for the villa that night without me even suggesting that. Although I wish none of this happened, i was definetely satisfied with their resolution!
The rest of the stay really seemed like there was a lot of hiccups, but bcv fixing it along the way. Some shopping bags were missing from our luggage delivered to the new room, but was quickly found. There was no communication that the room was to be connected the next day so it wasnt and our firework view was gone
On the flip side, what an amazing location!!!! Literal steps away from Epcot! This was amazing before and after a long day in the parks and I would literally stay here again just to have Epcot practically in my backyard.
This trip could be chalked up to a bad experience in need of a redo, but the overall themeing for me just didn't do enough for me, and well after the pool incident, im not rushing to go back (no fault of the hotel whatsoever.)
I felt like I did what I needed to do there which was experience it and i feel in no rush to go back. I would go back for the ice cream, however, as the Beaches and Cream No Way Jose wins for best ice cream and the hotel wins for the most stellar location. The gift shop also had a good selection and we picked up some ornaments and clothes there too! Also had some issues here, but instead of this report being a laundry list of issues let's just say unfortunately this was our least favorite hotel out of the Crescent Lake bunch
Def was not expecting that and sorry to be a downer on this trip report, but off to better days at Poly next!
