First trip with new friend

So as a Dvc member I go to WDW. I have a new "guy friend" who has only been once years ago. any ideas on fun or semi-romantic things we could do. I am a Disney nut he just thinks of it as a place with rides. (I want to draw him closer not scare him away) He has said he dosent like a lot of planed out things on a vaction. Help me out what are somethings we can do.

I asked similar questions the first time I took my boyfriend to DisneyWorld last year. We are returning again in May for 10 days. I asked him today what he thought was romantic about what we experienced at Disney.

He liked the romantic EPCOT dining setting of the Mexican restaurant, watching the ride boats on the water under the Aztec Pyramid.

He liked the night time EPCOT Illuminations Fireworks, where we could be next to each other and hold hands, shoulders.

Personally I find it romantic to be next to the guy I love, and the rest of the world seems to disappear, so there were wonderful times at many places I wouldn't even think of being romantic, but more fun at DisneyWorld.

My favorites were dining at the Hollywood Studio 50s Prime Time Cafe, and oddly I felt very intimate with my boyfriend there. Riding on Splash Mountain with him next to me, it was kind of the Disney tunnel of love (dont laugh). Sitting on any park bench together, and people watching. Desert at the French Cafe in EPCOT. Heck desert at any Disney Cafe spot.

I may be linking too much food activity to romance.

Screaming together on the thrill rides, Rock N Roller Coaster, Soarin, Test Track, the faster the better. Walking along the "river" from EPCOT back to the Boardwalk area holding hands.

Where are you planning to stay? When is your trip? How long are you planning to stay? What age range are you guys in?

Without knowing those things, it's going to be hard to give you much help. A few basics.....

Never underestimate how nice it is just to be there with someone that you love. To me half the fun of the thrill rides is hearing Corey laugh/scream her way through them. Walking hand in hand, stealing a quick kiss in an out of the way spot, sharing a Mickey Bar....these are the things that make a Disney vacation extra memorable.

Depending on what you are into, there are a variety of entertainment options open to you. The waterparks are fun, but TL offers Surfing Lessons. There are lots of golfing options. If you are into drowning a few worms, there are fishing excusions. If fireworks are your thing, then you might want to do a fireworks cruise. Oh, and don't forget the spas! http://www.relaxedyet.com/ Then of course, there are lots of tours to be taken. Corey loved the Segway tour at FW.

Of course, I am sure that you are looking into a nice TS meal or two for you to enjoy together. One hidden gem is lunch at LTT. We love it there.

Renting a water craft and having an hour or so alone on the water may be fun and romantic. Depends on your definition, eh?

Lounging on the Poly beach in a hammock?

Dining at Le Bistro de Paris (upstairs) France?

A specialty cruise (Illuminations or Wishes)?

Depending upon where you are staying, 'renting' bicycles?

We are staying at the BCV last week of Feb for 6 days in park. I don't like
thrill rides he does.

and one other thing I am white and he is black so he dosent like holding hands in public because he thinks every one is looking at us, but I like the mushy stuff. who cares what people think right ?

How much $$ are you looking to spend?

Does he like upscale dining, like watching the fireworks from California Grill, or does he prefer more casual settings?

An early morning hot air balloon excursion might be fun, even though it isn't "officially" Disney, but February may be a little too chilly to enjoy the experience.

Maybe a quiet dinner or lunch at Brown Derby, as it takes 2 credits on the DDP, we find it to be a quieter venue than some other Disney park restaurants. Le Bistro is also a good option, too.

That's a neat time to go. You are there during Mardi Gras!

Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter DO celebrate Mardi Gras with a small parade, but this parade is usually held on Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday" and is put on by the cast members at the resorts using decorated golf carts. It begins at the Riverside food court and runs along the Sassagoula River where it circles through the French Quarter, returning to Riverside where it ends. The cast members play music and toss candy and beads to the guests assembled along the route. I was lucky enough to catch it in 2006. In 2009, Mardi Gras will be on February 24. I checked with a source at POFQ who confirmed that they do still have the Mardi Gras parade.

I would hope that you can find a way to teach your new friend that when vacationing at WDW, that it's a great place to let your inner child out. That means holding hands is totally ok. There is too much magical stuff to worry about the opinions of others.

my partner and I just went last month and the romantic things just happened. Not planned but little things that made the trip that much more special.

You could have a basket waiting for him in the room with wine and stuff as a welcome.

I would recommend Citricos or Flying Fish for a nice dinner. They were both incredible.

I'm sort of in the same boat. However, going w/ my partner of almost 3 years, so we're past the G/F stage. But I DO understand not wanting to scare them...after all we are NUTS about this place!! I'm doing a few of the suggestions you've already gotten: Having our room decorated by the Disney Florist, upon arrival, doing the Epcot Segway Tour, the Carriage Ride, a romantic dinner and spending some time in that hammock, at sunset!! Good luck...either way, your going to DW with someone you care about....and we all know Disney means MAGICAL!!

just let him slowly discover that when you're at WDW, you get nothing but support from CMs and there's nothing wrong with holding hands. I put blinders on and refuse to even acknowlege any bad looks I might get from guests because I know I have the whole company behind me and that's all that matters.

As for things to do, I took my bf last year over xmas and we did lots! You can check out my trip report although I never finished it. We like fine dining so we did victoria and albert's, a wishes fireworks cruise, ate at the california grill, hoop de doo, chef mickey's, took lots and lots of pictures, and we rented the sea rays, went into the lake and dropped our old rings after I had given him new ones in front of the partner's statue.

Ok maybe some of that is over the top, but there are SO many things to do at WDW. Go to the boardwalk and get taken in a bike ride thingy, go to jellyrolls, and enjoy all the little sights and sounds all over the resort.
