First Trip using FP+ and need help to figure it out...

My son and I are going to be going to DW soon and we haven't been since Disney started the new FP+ program and I was wondering if someone could help me out with some questions I have and if you happen to have any words of wisdom for getting the best use out of the new system I would appreciate it greatly.

First when you go to book your fast passes are there only certain times of day you can book? do you get a timeframe to use your FP like before?
Are you limited to the amount of big rides you can book? if so is this per day or per park?
Can you hop from park to park and use your 3 FP's in each park during one day? and is this even possible? because of the travel between the parks?
If you booked your FP's ahead of time how did that go? was it easy to do?

If anyone knows of any up to date threads that you can steer me to that would be great too..
