First Trip to The Fort

Glad you made it goofy. Let me know how you like eagle roost, we are west of atlanta and eagle maybe a good half way stop. We currently stop at river park in Valdosta but all depends on when we leave.

Since you are close, any other campgrounds you enjoy? We are new to camping but have spent our time at Disney. We are trying to branch out. We have some things planned but looking for some weekend spots that are with a couple hours of Atlanta.

Eagles Roost was very nice, lots of oaktrees and spanish moss, and the people were nice and friendly. They gave us a pullthrough site, it was concrete and not wide, but wide enough. Some site have cable but we didn't, did have power, water and sewer. There was a LOT of road noise, but it is just off the interstate.

We liked it and are going to stay there on the way back. How do you like River Park, I thought about staying there or somewhere farther north.

I like Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain state park is nice but they only have a few sites for rvs over 20 feet. The corps of Engineers runs several nice campgrounds, I like McKinney Campgroud, they have lots of sites right on the water,

thanks for the suggestions. We don't mind River Bend. Without a toad there are some gas stations close so you can get subway. The sites are a little narrow but fairly level and paved. It is pretty small, but no road noise from 75. They also have a little dog park so that helps. I am not sure i would want to pull in in the dark for your first time, but since we have been to the park we would probably do it. For us it is hard to get a mile walk in with mal, we have to do a lot of loops. It is fine for an overnight and it is fairly cheap.

In March we have to get to disney in two days. Kind of a long story, so we are planning on Friday night trying to park at Caroll's Meat and Sausage. They have an RV park. It looks more like a lot with hook ups, but seems like it would be perfect for an overnight. Might have some road noise. It is just south of Cordel.

Hope you enjoy Disney can't wait to hear more.

That does seem a little strange to happen over night, but you never know. From what you described, it sounded more like a plug or main junction box issue or likely a ground problem. My 5're is 11 years old now and the grounds seem to be the biggest issue. Rust and age take hold.

We stumbled on a mouse fix (besides going to Disney :rotfl2:). I read somewhere (Trailer Life maybe) several years ago to put dryer sheets all over the camper, especially inside cabinets and under the beds. Apparently the mice don't like the smell or chemicals in them. Haven't had any evidence of mice since then. The 2 years prior, they chewed up anything soft. Toilet paper, bed spreads, sheets, all the towels and plastic things under the sink. You name it. Nothing since we started throwing a whole box of sheets throughout the camper when we winterize.

j

I think the corrosion just finally caught up with the truck plug. The odd thing is that the plug checked good so they replaced the trailer connector, then moved to the junction box, I kept saying 'but I swear it worked the other day'. They finally put some independent power to the trailer and every thing worked, so they replaced the truck plug and BINGO every thing was back!

I thought they were about to rewire the whole trailer :)

They also recommended Iris Spring soap for mouse control.

We made it! Settled in site 1616, it's really nice:) Looped around in the golfcart and can't believe the number of campers! We're not at the state park any more ToTo:faint:

Also had Mickey Bars, :goodvibes

Glad you made it there safely. Enjoy your trip. And no Mickey Bars, it is around 10 degrees here. :thumbsup2

Would 1616 officially qualify as a waterfront site? Looks like it might be possible....

Congrats on your arrival. Have a great stay!

Sunday was a beautiful day. Clear blue sky's and sun!
Had breakfast at the "little house" and headed to the MK. We just missed the boat, and we had to skip the next one because it was a launch and I had my scooter, it was a good trip although it took a while. We did a little business and toured around for a while. The crowd level seemed high for this time of year but it was pretty weekend day.
We road little mermaid before it closed for rehab and the Haunted Mansion because it's our favorite!

The squirrels we not happy about the hammock and kept running up and looking at it, I also saw them ransacking the campsite across the road but they all disappeared when this guy showed up!

I met the folks in the campsite next door, they have been here since January 5th and are will be here until February 27th, and I thought 10 days was a long trip!

L cooked some fish for lunch to make me feel better, and I had some salmon at Columbia Harbor House for dinner, so I guess I caught some after all.

Another great day at the Fort!

That isn't a big tan Gateway 5er is it? Could be our very own jhuff8181. I know he and his family are staying at the Fort from early January to sometime in the middle to end of February.

Great pics and TR too! And don't feel bad about not catching anything. I've fished many times in the canal with my DS and have yet to catch anything. I'm not convinced there are actually any fish there. :)

These folks have a nice utility trailer conversion and a tent. I've been following jhuff8181 daughters trip report, I need to go by and say hello.
Fished some more today, no catching but had a great time.

Tuesday after breakfast we headed over to Epcot. We toured around and talked about where to have lunch. After a while we ended up at Spaceship Earth.

We had just witnessed the destruction of Rome when the cars stopped. We waited for our time travel to resume, decided to have lunch at the San Angel Inn Restaurante, made reservations for lunch, waited, then waited some more. The lights came on, then more lights and the announcement that we were going to be evacuated! Well, I don't get around too well and was going to have to wait for the RCFD to come to the rescue, but a wonderful castmember who had helped in the evacuation came by and said if I could walk 30 feet or so he would take me down the elevator, so off we went.

Around the turn

We came out through this shiny door, who'd a thunk it

After lunch and doing a little hang gliding in California, we went by SE again. The CM that rescued me came over and greeted us! He helped me load and was there to help me unload after our trip through time. The letter of complement is in the mail!

After all the excitement and a very nice lunch it was back to the campsite for some rest.

Another great day at the Fort.

Wednesday was a Fort morning, which means FISHING :fish:

The day was sunny and warm and several people came by with their dogs and riding bikes. Just to prove I don't just have the end of a pole, here is my fishing chair.

After a while I went back to camp, There was a thread not too long ago about sewer hookups, and since I have always been fascinated by sewer lines and lift stations, I will post a picture of the sewer hookup!

6C3F6545-CDFC-4556-9D0F-4CF257922A7E_zps1ezzxjvp.jpg

The connection is a 3" threaded PVC pipe in a stainless steel basin with a smaller water drain in the bottom. There is no big rock required to hold your sewer pipe in place like at most of the campground dump stations in my area!

After the sewer inspection we headed over to the Magic Kingdom with plans to use our fastpasses, see the 3:00 parade and have dinner at Be Our Guest. That when we hit a major snag in our Fort Wilderness experience, transportation to the Magic Kingdom. The problem is my scooter and the Disney Boats. Only the bigger ones, the Cruisers, can load an ECV and then only 2 easily and at the most i've seen loaded is three. This means you have to wait for a Cruiser, which is at best ever other boat, and if you are number 4 you may have to wait for 2 cruisers. This day we left the Fort at 1:00 and arrived just in time for the 3:00 parade, an almost 2 hour transit time.

but we saw these guys and made our dinner reservation.

After a nice dinner with the Beast we headed straight to the dock with hopes of a quick trip home, but alas 3 hours later we made it to the Fort, 5 hours transport for 3.5 park hours, Yikes!

Wouldn't it be easier to drive to the TTC and take the monorail to the MK?

I love your pictures; especially of the sewer hook-up. We haven't camped yet with our new trailer (we had a pop-up without a bathroom before) and this sewer thing is a little intimidating. We have actually camped on full hook up sites before, but I never paid attention to the sewer as we didn't use it.
