Hello Friends-

Wife and I are making our first trip to the Fort in early December. We've been reading and studying videos about the Loops. Like the looks of 800. We like bigger, shady, sites- hopefully with a little privacy. Two Shelties travel with us, we like access to dog walking trail. (We don't do off-leash parks).

So I reserved Premium Pet, requested outer perimeter of 800.

Does anyone know where on that loop are the access points to the dog exercise trail?

Any specific site recommendations?

We're planning to try the FAX request thing asking for:

Loop 800 - outer perimeter,

Near dog trail access point,

Away from comfort station (won't use 'em)

Away from main road (to avoid bus noise)

Does faxing really work?? We've read conflicting reports on this...( Read on one forum that most (if not all) faxes end up in trash , never read. This was posted by someone who supposedly worked in the "back room" where assignments are made.)

Are they cheerful about requests to change sites after arrival (if we don't like what they give us)?

Any and all suggestions appreciated!!

Cheers.

We just returned from the Fort, staying in the 600 Loop. We did the fax request for that loop and were put there - we were pleased. Keep in mind though at check in the employees have no power over where to put you - they take whatever the computer tells them. If you find you cannot get your trailer or RV into the site or you do not like it you have to return, with trailer in tow, to the front and then the adventure begins. The associate has to call someone that has the 'power' to override things and then they can put you into other site options. Be patient.

While we were there it appeared that Disney was shutting down the 800 loop for electrical repairs because we saw the loop completely empty. You may want to call and check on that.

As far as the pet excercise area (Waggin Tails Dog Park) - it is far away from the 800 loop. It is over by the 500 loop off of Big Pine Trail. In fact the 500 loop looked to be pretty good as an alternative when we were scouting future locations for our next trip.

Hi- thanks
Just wondering- did you request the 600 loop at reservation or only via fax?? This might tell us if your fax actually was indeed read...

the Waggin" Tails park is the one I won't use. Read that there is a dog trail along the canal behind 800- can anyone confirm that?? If so where do you access the trail?

We have stayed in the 800 several times, its our favorite next to 900. There is a long dog walk around the loop on the Meadows campings side along a creek, and is close to Meadows trading post/Pool area...

Yes, there is a really nice dog walk trail between the 700 loop and behind 800. Very peaceful area that runs along a creek. I cannot tell you how to access it from 800, though, as I have only gotten there from 700.

I did both. I requested the 600 loop at reservation time and again with the fax about a week prior to our arrival.

We always request, and usually get the 900 loop. On that loop, there is an access point to the dog walk at about site 918. We have found our best success at getting the loop and site that we want has been to request early with a cm, follow up with a fax and try to check in on Sunday. Good luck with your site request and enjoy your trip!

Hey!

How did that Ohio person get in here?? Looks like an all Texan thread!! LOL

Yes that's our plan. We have 800 requested on our res. Will FAX 5 days prior and add 900 and 700 as alternative loops.

What do you like about 900?

thanks Becky! Tell me why you like 900!?

The 900 Loop is closer to the Meadows trading post area, actually across the street and the sites are large like 800 loop and plenty of room for the dogs..

When we've done Premium sites I've always requested the 900 loop for the same reason Becky gives - it's close to the Meadow TP, the big pool, and the campfire area.

800 loop is fine but it is a bigger loop (72 sites in it versus 32 in 900) and if you are on the far side it's a little longer walk to the Meadow area. Given the number of times each day I seem to make that walk, the cumulative effect is measurable.

But hey, :confused3 , you can't go wrong in either one!

The same as everyone else! It's a small loop, set off from the main road, most sites have no one behind you, the sites are large and wooded with plenty of privacy, close to the pool and trading post. On our last site, we were able to fit a 40' motorhome with three slides with a ten foot trailer behind it ,two golf carts and an easy up. I've already requested the same site for our trip in November.
