First trip to the Fort! Loop Question

I'm planning our first trip to Ft Wilderness in late April 2015. We will have 7 kids plus hubby and me. We won't have a golf cart. I'm wondering which loop we should request. My first thought was I wanted to be close to the pools, but will it be warm enough to swim in April? If its not, I'm thinking I would rather be close to the beach area. What are your thoughts?

We will all be happy to help. First, give us a little more info. What size TT, popup, RV are you using? Will you be bringing any pets? Using a tent in conjunction with your RV or TT?

There are different types of sites, some with sand pads others are all concrete. Some allow pets and some don't. It will just make it easier for us to make some suggestions.

Also, there is an internal bus system. So you're never very far away from anywhere.

We will be staying in a 32 ft TT, no tents or pets.

In the summer time with kids, being closer to the pool really helps out, but weather in April can be iffy. Being near the boat docks has its advantages for the ease of transportation to the MK. Any site at the Fort is usually better than at home.

500 is almost in the middle. 1400 is closest to the pool. 100 is closest to the beach.

We just returned (April 2014) from our 2nd trip to the fort.

We did not request any specific location, but was assigned to the 500 loop. Right next to the bus stop and walking distance to the boat.

Our previous trip (April 2011) was at the 1100 loop. Again, nice for being near the bus stop. At this location, you would be using the internal bus system to get to the boat or bus system.

To me, they all have plus and minuses. In the future, I am going to save some money and step down from the premium sites. Although nice large sites, how much time do you hangout at the RV.

Just there over the 4th and was in the 800 loop, a little closer to the marina then the pool but if walking we would take the pet walk path to the 700 loop as a short cut.

Over Christmas we stayed in the 1400 loop right across from the campfire/movie/singalong. It was a dream come true for our 4 kids I think I would always request that same area now that we've seen how wonderful it really was! And close to the bus stop as well, so going anywhere else was a breeze! Also right next to the comfort station- there just can't be a better spot anywhere at the fort in my opinion!

My favorite is the 100 loop. Closest to the marina and really easy to hop on the boats to MK and an easy transfer to other parks. Plus really nice to hear the boat horns coming and going.

Yes, we agree! It is always our requested loop and 90% of the time get it. In fact, we have been in that loop so many times over the years that the few times we weren't, just didn't feel right - like we really weren't at the Fort!

We were in the 500 loop last August (was a nice upgrade for us since we booked/paid for a full hookup, not a premium ) and we found it fairly convenient to many places. We were in site 555 - so it was literally a 30-second walk to the internal bus stop - the downside is that in a site on the outside of the loop, we also heard the buses as soon as they started running in the morning and until they stopped at night. Even with the AC on in the popup, DH and I could hear them from our bunk, which was closest to the road - but they really weren't too loud and after a day or so, we were used to them and tuned them out.

That said - it was a quick and easy walk to any of the waterfront amenities or transportation. We also found it easy to walk to the pool and Meadows area as well, but we are walkers in general and our kids are older - 17, 13, and 8 at the time.

We really only used the internal buses to get to the Outpost area.
