First Trip to DL - solo (COMPLETE) new link p.43

It's funny you posted this update today. We pplayed our concert at DCA today. It was fun but its an exhausting time because we also work in a late night dinner the night before. This time I rented one of the Grand Villas and we had a blast! I'll tack it on the end of my TR as bonus material! :rotfl:

We all love bonus material. :thumbsup2

I don't know what we all did before cell phones Pam?

I used to print out directions from mapquest, I like the phone talking to me much better! (I know there's still actual maps, but you can't really look at those safely while driving)

I totally agree! I'm not comfortable doing that at all. I like the 200 feet warning. :thumbsup2

Just read this all through in prep for our December trip. I like to read about how others focus their days to give me ideas for ours. :) you mentioned several things we haven't done yet and I'm adding to our list. I didn't even know about the cookies at Ghiradhelli... we live in San Francisco and go to ours often. I've never seen them and wonder if it's a DL thing? Or maybe I'm just too focused in the ice cream. ;)

Sounds like you had a great time! I loved all the detailed pics. Thanks so much for sharing!

You couldn't use your MB to get in the parks? That's what I'm looking forward to most. I'm always juggling getting the pass out and holding the backpack, and trying to get a picture of something that catches my eye

Actually we never tried, since they didn't recognize our Passes as valid we never tried to use them. The only thing we used them for was opening the door. They are just a big GPS tracker for Disney to know where you are, and offer incentives to buy dining or other things where you are near if you don't have ADRs or FPs.

I'm glad I took the train too, the exhibits were unexpected treats.

We haven't done them in years and I love the Grand Canyon thing, we must do that sometime soon, even if she sits it out!

I thought that was today, I was thinking about you guys. I can't wait to read about it, and see the pictures! I'm glad you had a great time. :)

Did you get the picture of you and Fran I emailed a while back? just want to make sure it went through.

Yes, I did. I'm surprised you didn't post it, thank you for sending it! We were so tired today and I put the stuff up on FB, but I plan on putting it on the TR when I get around to it (after the TR is over). I got sick of seeing all the other people in band posting about the fun they were having on the rides. We didn't do any rides, but we had a great meal and stayed in a GV. I threw one of the best parties that I've had in years. Not many people, but we all had a great time and it was a sleepover! :lmao:

I know, this is funny and I don't know how many people will get it since there aren't musicians here, but Fran left her cell phone in the car at the gig today. She needed it because she has a "tuner app" on the phone that she uses. (See 1st clarinet is the one who gives the pitch to the band to tune. She needs to make sure she is in "tune" before giving the pitch to the rest of the band). I had to run back to the car and get her phone (and my glasses). There used to be a separate device costing a couple hundred dollars for a tuner. Now "there's an app for that!"

:lmao:

Fran really likes physical maps. I'm glad that I can hold one in my lap (when we have it) and give her directions because she HATES the GPS direction giving apps. She likes me to look it up on a map first before we even get in the car. As a result we always go to AAA and get the maps for everywhere we go. We never use them because I end up using my phone, but I have them when she gets mad that we are lost! :rotfl:

It was a great show, very well done. When will you find out the itinerary? I hope you get to see Aladdin and WoC, they were both fantastic. So much to do, not possible to do it all in one trip.

I know the basics of the Itinerary from other reports. They do things like Riding the Liberty Belle, seeing the Dream Suite and Walt's Apartment along with Radiator Springs Racers and some rides for the first halves of day two and three of the trip. How late the on my own time starts especially with a Dis exclusive trip is unknown. I am expecting it to be as late as 3 PM or 4 PM each full day there.

Oh no re last full day :-( great post though!

I love the sound of Mickey and the Magical Map! Especially as you mention he gets Hawaiian on us! I love all things Hawaiian! The music, the dress..

Great you caught the train. I know right re people suddenly becoming mute when told no flash photography. I was amazed on ETWB people were told no five times and they still carried on! Poor Belle had stars in her eyes!

I think that is a wonderful example of a Clydesdale horse but have only ever seen them in Bay. I know they do come in other colours though. They are magnificent creatures. A good example Pam of how a vegetarian can be very strong!

Omg re the strawberry shake. I just adore strawberry shakes. I would give my right arm to try one of those babies!

The church is beautiful. I love stain glass windows don't they just take your breath away. I bet the acoustics were wonderful in there with Alison and Fran's band playing. What kind of music were they treating the audience to? That was kind to invite you to dinner. Yum re fish tacos!

Now I want to see that Mickey show, hear that amazing band, eat cookies and drink a strawberry shake!

Thanks so much for reading! :) the cookies are on the very bottom of the menu, easily overlooked. Remember to get them warmed, so delicious!

Have a fabulous trip!!!

What a pain, I hope it's fixed by your next trip. It doesn't bother me one bit if they know where I am at all times.

We haven't done them in years and I love the Grand Canyon thing, we must do that sometime soon, even if she sits it out!

I almost felt like I was in the old version of Ellen. I liked all the dinosaurs.

Yes, I did. I'm surprised you didn't post it, thank you for sending it! I wanted to ask if it was ok to post first, you guys looked great!

Sounds like great fun! What did you make?

I know, this is funny and I don't know how many people will get it since there aren't musicians here, but Fran left her cell phone in the car at the gig today. Isn't that amazing! How can it be an accurate tune from the phone? These things boggle my mind.

I do have a big U.S. book of maps in the car just in case for any reason, but it was fabulous that the phone kept updating my arrival time when I hit traffic or needed to detour. I couldn't get over how helpful it was.

How long is the ABD? Are you staying after that ends? There is just so much to do. I hope it's fabulous!

Thank you :) it was a perfect last day though, couldn't have been better.

I love the sound of Mickey and the Magical Map! Especially as you mention he gets Hawaiian on us! I love all things Hawaiian! The music, the dress..

It was a great show, not too long, only 25 minutes, but full of great songs and very lively.

Great you caught the train. I know right re people suddenly becoming mute when told no flash photography. I was amazed on ETWB people were told no five times and they still carried on! Poor Belle had stars in her eyes!

I can't stand when people continuously ignore the warnings! It drives me crazy!

I think that is a wonderful example of a Clydesdale horse but have only ever seen them in Bay. I know they do come in other colours though. They are magnificent creatures. A good example Pam of how a vegetarian can be very strong!

I must have admired that horse for a good ten minutes, he was gorgeous! Indeed, you certainly don't need meat to get strong. (Some people might flame for for that)

Omg re the strawberry shake. I just adore strawberry shakes. I would give my right arm to try one of those babies!

Have you had a banana shake before? Oh my are they tasty!

The church is beautiful. I love stain glass windows don't they just take your breath away. I bet the acoustics were wonderful in there with Alison and Fran's band playing. What kind of music were they treating the audience to? That was kind to invite you to dinner. Yum re fish tacos!

All kinds of music, it was quite a spread. They are all very talented musicians. Hopefully she jumps in to tell us what kind it was.

Now I want to see that Mickey show, hear that amazing band, eat cookies and drink a strawberry shake!

Me too!

Oh yes just slightly behind strawberry banana shake is my second favourite. I regret McDonalds don't do a banana one I wish they did but they do a lovely strawberry. We do a brand called yazoo milkshakes you buy in supermarkets here and they do banana. I gross people out by having it on cereal instead of milk!

I like lime milkshake also but that is a very rare find!

I've never heard of a lime milkshake, hmmm.

Milkshake on cereal, although tasty I'd imagine it would make it hard eat?

the yazoo milkshake is thin same as milk. Like your nesquick chocolate milk. But different flavours.

It's six days for the trip, but two of them is in Hollywood. I wish I could, but Mom doesn't want to spend the extra days in LA. I really want to, but I hope we can do this.

I can't believe I didn't find this report until today!

Jill in CO

Thank you so much for coming down, I had such fun too! I didn't want the time to end :) I don't know if it's feasible or if you guys will be going on one for a while but I think it would be super fun to go on a cruise together some day.

I would love to do a cruise together someday! That would be so much fun:goodvibes

Nothing related to this trip but I got our Magic Bands last night!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Yay for MB's!

28 Days til Vacation!!!

Woot woot! Dang that came up quickly didn't it?!

I'm so embarrassed...I didn't even know about Mickey and the Magical Map until I read PIO's TR:blush: It's something I definitely need to watch whenever I make it back to DL!

So glad you made it to the concert safely! The one time I was supposed to see Alison play at DCA, I got extremely sick. DH and I both got food poisoning :sick: I need to catch her one day!

You'll still have an absolutely amazing trip! I'm sure you'll want to plan another one right away, DL has such a different feeling than WDW. Both are totally unique and wonderful.
