Hey! I am getting ready to make our first trips home to SSR. It will be my DS age 6 and 3 (when traveling) in December.

Any special request I need to make. I know Non-smoking (son has allergies) anything like first floor or close?

Where not to stay?

TIA!

We just returned a few weeks ago from Spring Break with DD 16.
We had a great location in the Paddocks (I think 5238). It was on the 4th floor (elevators worked great) and the best part was we were overlooking the quiet pool, hot tub and playground, as well as bus stop. A lot of parents with little ones had one parent with the kids on the playground and another watching for the bus. As soon as it arrives, they just walked around and there they were. A good way for the kiddos to have fun while waiting for the bus.

I second the Paddock area. We were in room 5811 in October and loved that area. The quiet pool was wonderful and the walk to the main pool was not bad, maybe a 5-7 minute scenic, lovely walk. This area is also the first to be picked up and dropped off on the bus route and as Coloradomom mentioned, there is a playground right there your kids would love. We have also stayed in the Springs area and enjoyed that as well. If your kids are good swimmers they will love that slide. The main pool also has a splash area and is a zero entry pool. It is convenient to the pool but we sort of missed the more laid back feel of the paddock. Also, the bustop there in the Springs gets really crowded and since its the last one we had several times when we didn't get a seat. But this was during a very crowded time. If you plan on spending a lot of time in Downtown Disney, then Congress Park is good (it also has its own quiet pool) since it is closest to the walking path to DTD. SSR is a great resort for families.

Thanks! How far is Congress park to the main area and bus stop route? How does it rate?

TIA!

Congress Park is about a 5-7 to the main area, Carriage House. Buses run frequently but the play area at Congress is by the pool area. Congress park is a close walk to DTD by the :boat: water. (7-10 minutes according to your pace). DTD has Legoland next to Mceedee's which can be a fun night outing for the kiddos!
As the others have stated the main theme pool is great with zero entry and the Donald :donald: Duck water play area. Great seating around the pool where ever your kids decide to have the best time. They will love the rock water slide as well.
Don't forget, SSR also has lovely carriage rides at dusk. The kids might really enjoy this. It's about $35 for a 25 minute ride for all of you!

Please have a wonderful :smickey: Mickey pixiedust: Magicial trip. Can't wait to hear your report!

Enjoy the on site eatery, Earls, I may have a few coupons left. Enjoy those 5 minute fireworks at midnight that they highly tout. Enjoy that poolside food......... errrr..... wait there isn't any. :lmao: Last but not least you had better hope you like it there because unless you own another resort you will be spending all of your stays there. 7 month window will be next to impossible with the size of SSR and its lack of appeal. Also the point transferring glitch has led to even ore competition for the smaller DV Resorts.

Enjoy your stay at the biggest DVC Resort to date. :thumbsup2

I don't even understand what this poster is getting at :sad2: We have never stayed at SSR, but we would take the boat from POR past there and it looks very nice. I can't wait to stay there too. Unfortunately, we won't be able to go until next summer :sad1: Have fun on your trip! Oh and please post a trip report because I'm nosy and like to know what other people do on vacation :lmao:

We have stayed in Congress Park both times, and we really enjoyed it. The only complaint I can imagine is that it is a bit of a walk to the main area. But it really is not that far, even with little kids.

Have a great stay - should be gorgeous at Christmas time!

Thanks everyone (except Docabybaby :confused3 ) I am looking forward to our trip. It will be Grandma, DS3 and DS6 and my DH will join us for part of the time. We are going for 10 to 14 days.

I can't decide which will be better to be closer to the main area or DTD. I love DTD and my boys love lego land. So I am not sure. :confused3

I don't see us doing much swimming so that isn't a huge concern. But the playground will be a hit. I imagine we will eat breakfast in the room.

Got lots of planning to do! LOL! and I am getting excited. :cheer2: :cheer2:

TIA!!
