We are going to WDW for the first time next september / october. We are on the QSDP but im wanting to do one sit down meal and pay OOP. How far in advance can i make reservations? also does anyone have any recomendations? As its our first time their i want it to be a bit special, was thinking of a character breakfast, or dinner some were fun. Im also planning to pay for the whole thing as a thankyou to the parents for the trip :goodvibes So dont really want to be paying a lot.

Thanks in advance :)

You can start planning your ADR's 90 days in advance. As for characters, some of my favorite are Chef MIckey's, Crystal Palace, and Akershus. Great character interaction with great food as well!

Have a magical trip and happy planning!

Thankyou, I had a quick look on Disneys main site and it said 180 days away from the holiday before you could book?

I like the look of Crystal Palace, think it would go down better with my brother then a princess meal ;)

It's 180 days now ;). It was 90 for awhile last year, but has since changed back to 180.

The official policy is as follows:
  • If staying on-site with a confirmed reservation, you may book up to 10 days worth of dining at 180 days prior to check-in.
  • If not staying on-site, you may book up to 180 days prior to date of dining

Now, there is currently an issue on the Dining Reservations site that's allowing anyone to book dining at 190 days from date of dining, but chances are this will be addressed before it's time to make your own. Keep it in mind though ;).

As far as recommendations, I don't have any :p. I have heard that Tusker House and Ohana breakfasts are quite good. Chef Mickey's works as well for the classic characters. And, of course Crystal Palace if Pooh is your thing (it's also a very nice restaurant). Cape May would also work if staying in that area of the world. (Ok, I'm not really helping here am I? :p)

It is currently 180 days (or, it was a month ago when we made our ADRs).

If $$ is an issue, I'd go with a breakfast. They tend to be less expensive. Definitely check out restaurant menus at wdwinfo or allears to get an estimate of how much you're likely to pay.

If you've got any little princesses in your group, I'd recommend Akershus in Epcot's Norway pavillion. They always have 5 princesses circulating, whether you choose breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

At any rate, if you're looking at a character meal, what characters would you want to dine with the most or which ones do you most want to meet? Chef Mickey's can be one of the hardest reseravations to get, so be flexible and have a back up plan for just in case. One of my favorites was the Garden Grill. Family style dinner with Farmer Mickey, Pluto, and Chip and Dale. So much character interaction it almost got annoying. :)

If you want to do a TS character meal that doesn't cost too much, stick with breakfast! If you want to avoid the princesses, try Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, Ohana, Tusker House or Cape May. Am I forgetting any?! Keep in mind that Crystal Palace and Tusker House are located in the parks and require park admission so they are good choices if you are planning on going to MK or AK on the day of the meal.

A breakfast is a great way to see the characters without having to wait in any lines and to have a lot of good food at a low price. Many people here on the DIS recommend having breakfast at the last seating of the day to avoid large crowds, to spend more time with the characters, and to have a large meal close to lunch time.
We've been to:
  • Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club
  • 'Ohana breakfast at The Polynesian
  • Chef Mickey's at The Contempoary
and I'd rank them it that order. Cape May is a much more relaxed atmosphere than the other two. 'Ohana has an advantage because everything is served family-style and you don't have to get up to fill your plates. Chef Mickey's is...well, Chef Mickey's. It has The Big Cheese himself, plus some of the other major characters. The food quality (quite good) is very similar at all three.

You can go to the Disney Dining website(http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/reservations/dining/) 180 (or possibly 190, as Cafeen has said) to easily make your reservations. Choose the time that you want and available times will show. For example, I made Cape May ADRs for the last possible seating; I chose 11:30 and 10:55 popped up.

Happy planning!

For character interaction, fun times, good food and a lesser price tag, I'd do Donald's Safari Breakfast in AK or Crystal Palace for breakfast or lunch. You can book now, go check out it online!!!
