8/1 First whole vacation day. With the help of the Disboards and others, I had a fairly detailed plan for our trip (although I told myself from the beginning, and often, to be flexible so that I would not be too disappointed if the plans didn't work out!)
This first day was not to be a park day. We had a 10:10 PS for Chef Mickey's so we slept in (a little). Drove to the CR...took less than 15 minutes from our condo. Chef Mickey's was great!!! We all enjoyed the experience. Got photos and autographs of all the characters. I hugged Goofy--only because he sort of insisted with the outreach of his arms--and then, it happened! I was in mid-hug and the magic overtook me--I blurted out I LOVE Goofy!!! And I was not embarrassed or ashamed. I don't think my kids were embarrassed either. It was somehow, just right
Oh yeah--the food was really good. Fresh, good variety, and very tasty. A character breakfast that was well worth the price! We all left with full tummies and giant grins. The Contemporary was beautiful, if a little dated. I happen to love contemporary architecture, so the wide open space, expanses of glass, and murals were all beautiful to me. Another twinge of "Wow, I wish we were staying here" hit me.
From there, we got on the monorail--another exciting first. Rode to the Polynesian. Got off there to take a quick tour. We walked through the lobby and around to the pool area, then the boat dock...back to the lobby. By now, DH and I agreed that on our next trip we must stay on property. The hard part would be deciding which resort!
After spending last evening at the Boardwalk and seeing a bit of the Beach and Yacht clubs, and now these two resorts, we realize that each of the resorts is beautiful and wonderful--each in its own way. We finished the monorail loop, passing by the Grand Floridian.
From there, we headed to Downtown Disney Marketplace. My plan was to do a sort of souvenir preview. I had allowed a specific budget for souvies, per person. I hoped that doing this preview would help alleviate the "I want's" while we were in the parks. We would then return at the end of trip to make the purchases. DD was fun and festive. Even though it sprinkled rain off and on for the three hours we were there! The shops were interesting. Everyone loved the Lego creations/sculptures near the lego store. I loved World of Disney the most!! After DD, we took the kids back to the condo and got ready for our evening out--Parents only--at Pleaure Island.
DH and I got back to DD around 7. Had dinner at Earl of Sandwich. Great food and really great prices!! We then wandered over to PI. Not exactly the party animal type, I didn't know what to expect. There weren't many people, so there wasn't much of party atmosphere. There was an outdoor stage with a cover-band doing some current alt-rock songs. They were pretty good, so we listened for awhile. We ended up at the Adventurer's Club. That was fun. Very interesting format, short comedy skits/plays. Most interesting, though, was the decor. I really felt like I had stepped into an Indiana Jones movie. After that, we decided to get home, for tomorrow was EPCOT DAY!!
