DD was diagnosed with celiac disease at the end of January. We just got back from a week-long trip. We did NOT have the dining plan so she ate off the adult menu sometimes and the kid menu other times.

Day 1: Olivia's Cafe at Old Key West resort. The chef came out to talk to her and said he could make her what she wanted on the menu. She ordered the Cuban sandwich. She opted for potato chips rather than french fries. I think she was a tad disappointed they were not the homemade chips, but a bag of chips instead. She loved the sandwich which was made on Udis bread.

Day 2: Boma's for the breakfast buffet at the AKL. The chef came out (he was awesome) and took us around the buffet and told us what she could and couldn't have and then he made her 3 Mickey waffles and brought out 2 donuts. There was a lot of food for her to eat. He even brought out an OMG brownie for her to take for later. We took the donuts with us too since she got full.

Day 3: Biergarten in Epcot. This has always been one of her favorite restaurants, but knew going in she couldn't have the spaetzle. Again, the chef came out and told us what she could and couldn't have. He even brought her out a piece of fish done in a lemon butter since she couldn't have the fish on the buffet that had a sauce on it. The piece was huge, so she only ate half. She mostly ate the sausages and the beet salad that she loves and sauerkraut. The roll he brought out, she didn't like. I think it was Ener-G brand. For dessert, the chef brought her some pudding and fruit and 2 packs of Enjoy Life chocolate chip cookies. We took the cookies with us because she was too full. She had 1 later, but didn't care for it. It was too hard and crunchy for her taste.

Day 4: Tony's Town Square in Magic Kingdom. She ate off the kids menu here. All she wanted was spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti was good, it was the Tinkyada brand which I use here at home. She was disappointed at first that there was only 1 meatball, but it was just plain awful! I tried it and it was hard and dry. There was no excuse for that. She opted to avoid the roll here since it was the same brand as in Germany. She had a tiny ice cream sundae for dessert. But she was full, so she was happy.

Day 5: Crystal Palace breakfast buffet at the Magic Kingdom. The chef came out and took us around. He made her GF waffles, but not Mickey shaped and brought her 2 blueberry muffins which she loved. The waffles tasted different here than at Boma, so they may have used a different mix. She proceeded to fill up on fruit and had some bacon. She had grits too, but got too full to finish.
Columbia Harbor House at Magic Kingdom. She got the kids meal here. The manager came out to take her order. She got the allergy chicken tenders and applesauce and grapes. She could have had fries, but didn't want them. DD never liked chicken nuggets or tenders, but she loved these!

Day 6: Raglan Road at Downtown Disney. We had read about the GF fish and GF onion rings before leaving on our trip so wanted to try them. She devoured the fish and onion rings! The onion rings were very good, DH and I each had 1 to try. She only ate a few fries, but she isn't big on fries.
Babycakes Bakery at Downtown Disney. Again, we read about it before our trip. We got her 2 cupcakes; lemon and red velvet. She ate them over 2 days. Again, she loved them!

Day 7: Backlot Express at Hollywood Studios. The manager came out and said they could modify pretty much anything on the menu to be GF. DD only wanted the allergy chicken tenders again. She got apple slices and carrots to go with her meal. She ordered off the kids menu.
Mama Melrose's at Hollywood Studios. This had never been a favorite restaurant for her but DH and I like it, so we went with some friends we met up with that day. The chef came out and said he could pretty much make her whatever she wanted. She wanted the 4 cheese flatbread. No problem She declared it yummy. For dessert, she had a GF chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. She was too full to finish the cake so we tried it. Man, was it yummy!

Day 8: We were so impressed with the food choices and the chef at Boma that we came back here for breakfast again. We had the same chef (Chris) come out. He remembered DD. This time he made her pancakes and brought her a blueberry muffin. I don't think I have ever seen her eat so much as she did at this buffet. She loved the ham and said the pancakes were good. It was a different muffin than at Crystal Palace. It was good, but more crumbly than the one at CP. She loves the juice blend they serve and she loved all the fresh fruit. Before we left, the chef brought her a Mickey rice krispie treat that was safe and an OMG chocolate chip cookie. She loved the rice krispie treat. She hasn't had the cookie yet, but the OMG brownie she had before was yummy.

For snacks throughout the week she had a carmel apple from Germany in Epcot, popcorn, cinnamon glazed almonds, slushies from the Coke place in Epcot and various GF snacks we brought with us.

DD was treated like a princess this whole trip. It was a little disconcerting to her at first because she isn't used to going to Disney and having people make a fuss over her. But, she was happy she got to eat well.

If anyone has any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

We were lucky to get dairy and soy back before the trip, so it made things easier. She is still somewhat lactose intolerant, so I just took lactase with me.

Thanks for the reviews! Can you tell me anything else at Biergarten that is gluten free? Do they have potatoes or any other meats? Also iam wondering about the charge for GF items.

Fantastic GF review, thank you so much for sharing!:thumbsup2 I am the GF one in my family and an adult so it always makes me sad when I read about a child having celiac disease. But it sounds as if Disney treated her well!

Biergarten has always intrigued me, I figure how can there be gluten in all that meat lol. So happy to hear that your DD ate there safely and that it was good.

Boma is amazing for a GF breakfast. I had an incredible chef who made me so much food and went out of their way. We will always include this place on every trip!

Wow, so the cinnamon glazed almonds were GF?? That used to be my favorite park snack before going GF and it would make me so happy to know these aer safe!

I've yet to try Babycakes but it is on my must do list. What a nice feeling to walk into an actual bakery and be able to order something.

Thank you so much for your review!! Our June trip will be the first since my DD10 has been GF. I love reading all of the positive stories. I feel good knowing that she'll be able to eat well and have some treats!

They have regular potato salad which was next to something with gluten that the chef said he would get from the back if she wanted it and they had german potato salad which is warm. DD loves the german potato salad.

They have lots of salads. They had chicken too. I am pretty sure that was safe

We were never charged higher prices for the GF foods.

My daughter has handled her diagnosis pretty well. She never really liked a lot of stuff with wheat. Now we know why. She enjoys things now that are made GF. The tough part was no spaetzle and no Via Napoli.

we checked and there was nothing gluten in the almonds.

Boma will be a regular stop for us now!

Babycakes had a lot to choose from. DD had a difficult decision to make!

We were a bit nervous as well. I had read all the stories, but so many were either adults or little kids. I wanted to write a review for a bigger kid.

We have been to WDW many times, but I felt out of my element. We now know we can go anywhere and they will make her happy. If she is happy, I am happy!

:thumbsup2: I'm so gratefull that you posted this report. I've been recently diagnosed with Celiac and I was a bit fretful about my upcoming trip. I've had so many poor experiences in restaurants. I'm usually stuck with salad. I like salad but I like to eat well while on vacation. Especially with all that walking! Sounds like I'm in for a tasty time. popcorn::

Glad I could help!

Good review - my husband has celiac's and loves the chicken tenders. We have a condo and sometimes drive over to MK just to eat at Columbia Harbor House.

Great review! My 6 year old has over 20 allergies, and he was treated like a Prince!

Are the chicken tenders baked or fried?

Thanks

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's always great to read how things went for others.

They have a lot of GF meats there. The German meatloaf (by loaf think more like a deli pimento loaf without the pimentos so tastes more like balogna), pork roast, roast chicken, fish (chef had to special make it just like with OP) and deli meats. I can't remember if any of the sausages were GF or not. We didn't try any of them but we're also free of a heck of a lot more than just gluten.

I agree that the german potato salad is amazing. They also have a whole lot of different types of salads that are GF. I think that the only ones we couldn't have were ruled out due to dairy, citrus and lima beans so you may actually be able to have them all (obviously check with the chef). There were also some vegetable dishes that were safe.

For dessert the berry mixture was GF. It tastes really good over ice cream (we get Tofutti because we're dairy free). We were also brought out some of the Enjoy Life cookies.

The bread was Ener-G. They didn't have any margarine for us but if you can have dairy then butter will work just fine. They were served to us warm making them a bit better but I'm not a huge Ener-G fan.

I really need to get around to writing up my own reviews. LOL

They're gluten and dairy free. So are the pecans. They really are a great snack. One thing I discovered this trip is that you want to get them earlier in the day because they're not as good when they've been sitting around. They're especially good if you get them when they're still warm. Yummy!!
