We're going on our first trip to Disneyland on Saturday and we are getting very excited! We have hired a cottage with a pool in Marles en Brie, and we plan to buy annual passes so we can dip in and out as we please for a week. It'll be me and my husband, our five year old son, and 60 year old dad, so I think in this heat we will need to pace ourselves a little. :D I've got loads of tips on these boards, and I've also bought the brits guide to disney, so I think I'm prepared, I just don't really know what to expect as I've never been. I'm really looking forward to POTC and Big Thunder Mountain - will BTM be ok for my kid - he adores trains? Anyone got any tips for me?Four days to go - woohoo!!!

oh my god your son will adore BTM - and so will you! It goes very fast but enjoyably so - GET FASTPASSES for this one or go last thing at night - it is stunning at night with the park all lit up. Oh and turn around when you are going up the hill outside the mountain - the view is amazing :)

Sounds like a fantastic trip away, you will have so much fun :)

Any more questions?

my 4 y/o loved BTM, :) have a nice holiday and welcome to Dis :wave2:

Another question - its my dad's birthday on Sunday which will be our first day in the park. I want to take him somewhere nice for a meal - where would you recommend? I was thinking maybe the Blue Lagoon, but then someone told me Walts is beter? Is Blue Lagoon a fish restaurant? When would be a good time to go - is early evening really busy? And can we book a cake? Thanks in advance for all the help!

hi, Walts and Blue lagoon are very different resturants you can check here and see which you may prefer with regard to the menu. www.dlpfoodguide.com

You can order a birthday cake at both.

Hi glastocat and welcome to the DIS! :welcome:

The restaurants are generally quieter early evening as Europeans tend to eat later. We find if we book for 6pm or 6.30pm then they are not so busy. :)

the bonus of course with blue lagoon is that it is inside POTC, although I have not dined at either so I couldn't really say :)

Hi glastocat and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, posting guidelines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

Let us know how you get on in your gite. Great that you are only 20km away from the park :thumbsup2

For your DS I'd say get an autograph book and a chunky pen as he is going to want to collect the characters autograph.
Make sure you get a great family photo with one of teh characters. I'm sure your dad will treasure it as well :)

Hi & welcome

tips
take in bottled water/drinks with you.
Do Fantasyland early it gets very busy.
go shopping at Val d ' Europe the hypermarket there is great for all food plus wine & beer! Also great restaurants we especially love the chinese there - Le Dragon d'Europe.

have a great holiday

Welcome to the DIS glastocat  Hope you all have a wonderful trip :Pinkbounc

If you're getting Dream AP's, you get free access to the main parking lot and all the parkinglots of the Disney Hotels (except Disneyland Hotel). So I suggest you park your car at Hotel New York and walk down Disney Village to the two parks. :goodvibes

We're off in the morning! :cool1: There is no WAY I'll be able to sleep - and my kid is bouncing off the walls! :rotfl:

Can anyone tell me if the Blue Lagoon only serves fish? My husband isn't a fish fan, so that would rule out this restaraunt for us. :confused3

Oh dear I think I've missed you but I'll post up the answer anyway just in case anyone else is interested.

Although the Blue Lagoon is primarily a fish restaurant, they do serve non-fish dishes. My DH had a delicious chicken curry there and they also serve beef, veal, ostrich and duck.
