First timer to DW in Oct. w/questions

I will be booking our trip to DW by Sunday and I need some advice on what to do. I want to stay at POP or ASMO or at least one of the value resorts.
My DS who is 6 and I are going alone and there will be lots of friends there staying in various places. We are going to fly.

Are there any discount codes or whatever I could use?? We will go from Oct. 5- Oct. 11. We are planning on the package with park hopper and dining.
PLEASE any advice before I call them!

Do you have a Disney Visa? There are codes out for Disney Visa...I am not sure about general public codes. SOmeone else may chime in any time now and answer...I know there are some codes out there!
