Stupid question number one! We are going to WDW on January 1 and I realize the parks close early, but how late do the buses, monorail, etc. run so that we can go to dinner at the other resorts?

TIA

hb

The buses to the parks run for an hour after the parks close. There are not buses that run to the resorts but you can always take a cab if the parks are closed and you can not get back to your resort by a park bus.

usually on Jan 1 the parks don't close all that early...but no matter when they close buses usually run for at least 1 1/2 hrs from the parks...going from resort to resort can be a little tricker...

There is no bus transportation from resort to resort. There are resorts on the same bus/boat/monorail line but all of these modes of transporation end approximately an hour after the close of the parks (the bus/boat/monorail drivers always know the time of the last ride - I remember at WL, they told us that if we weren't on the last boat at a certain time, that we would have to go to the TTC and catch a Boone/Crockett bus from there!). Buses run to and from Downtown Disney until 2 AM. Your best way to get to another resort by bus after the parks are closed are by taking a bus to Downtown Disney and then catching the appropriate resort bus. :)

I guess what I am getting at is after a day at say MK, the family and I go back to ASMo to change and have reservations at the Contemporary. How is this accomplished the easiest? I know for a fact that I am not eating at a food court for 5 nights.

TIA

3 choices:

1. Car is fastest and easiest

2. Taxi is also fast

3. Bus transportation: Take the bus from ASMo to Downtown Disney and catch the Contemporary bus at Downtown Disney. When you're done with dinner at the Contemporary you'll have to take the bus back to Downtown Disney and then catch the ASMo bus.

With kids, I would vote for #1 or #2 OR dinner at Downtown Disney. :)

Afterthought: Have dinner at the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom - they have a great character dinner OR go directly from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary for dinner and then you'll only have to worry about taking the bus to Downtown Disney and the bus back to ASMo. :)

How late will these busses run? I will not be renting a car and a taxi seems a bit much if the buses are running.

It is always difficult to get from one resort to another, there are really no direct routes, unless you are going from one Monorail resort to another.

You will always either transfer at a Park, the TTC, or Downtown Disney to go from resort to resort. Park and TTC buses stop running an hour after park closing. This leaves Downtown Disney as your only transfer option, and these buses dont end until 2am.

There is a GREAT transportation tool at Ourlaughingplace.com. It shows you how to get from one place to another with approximate times. Now, it may not list all possible routes, just the fastest and most direct.

We have accomplished this by taking the bus to MK then taking the resort monorail.
