Hi all! We are renting points through a friend at work (lucky us) at Kidani Village. We are staying in a Savanah Studio at Kidani. We have stayed at AKL Jambo, not DVC. Here's my question; On serveral stays at AKL, (and at a few other resorts) we had a little "Pixie Dust" sprinkled on us and we upgraded on our room. We never asked, never paid for it. Some times it was the location of the room or the view, etc. With DVC, are there ever upgrades? Anyone ever get upgraded to a one bedroom from a studio? Ever a chance of a little Pixie Dust? I am sure we will love our room, was just curious. Thanks! Jane

I never had that kind of pixie luck dust, but you never know. Good luck on your fantastic vacation!

hotel stays are different than timeshare stays. it's different being a hotel "guest" than showing up as a timeshare "owner."

the short answer is that if your room is available, that is what you get in a timeshare. if there are maintenance issues or something, it's not completely impossible for a timeshare stay to be moved to another type of room, but if maybe 2% of hotel stays are upgraded, then it's probably something like less than 0.2% of timeshare stays being "upgraded."

I have through reg hotel stays but not through DVC. AKL is my home resort, hope you got a Savannah view :) Enjoy!

I must agree with Chalee94. Disney may through some magic occasionally at the resort hotel guests in the form of an upgrade for no reason other than the magic of it (i.e. not driven to do it due to room inventory or other issues). I would not expect the same at DVC unless there were some sort of issues that did not allow them to check you into your room. That would only happen if something unxpected happened.

Not to say it won't happen, but I would certainly not expect it.

My wife and I are gong to Kidani (Savanah view) in mid May for our anniversary. Our first real trip without the kids in 16 years. Our first time at Kidani and looking forward to it!!

I've owned DVC for about 14 years and go 2-3 times per year. I've never had any sort of an upgrade.

If you ask for an upgrade and one is available, they will take the points required for your stay out of your friend's account. The only time they will move you to other lodging, is if the lodging you were supposed to stay in is not available because of maintenance or other problem with your villa and nothing else is available in your category.

So plan on staying in that savanna studio.

Would they actually do this? I agree that you would pay points for a DVC upgrade but would they allow a non-owner guest to "use" points this way?

It seems like the owners would have a good argument for getting their points back.

My upgrade experiences when using points:
1. Once cause of over booking at VWL:
Booked a studio at VWL, when we tried to check-in, we had been upgraded to a WL-CL 2 bedroom lake view suite. Called some family members to come and join us for an unexpected vacation.
2. Once cause of problem with check-in at AKL:
Booked a standard view studio at AKL-Jambo, checked-in, given a room key as the room was suppose to be ready, went to the room, and found suitcases and purse in the room along with the room not being made up. Went back to the front desk, they gave us an on-the-spot upgrade to a savanna view room in another part of the resort plus four free breakfasts.
3. DCL
We reserved an inside stateroom but were upgraded to an ocean view room. We did not find out about the upgrade until we got to the room, what a surprise that was.

Others have reported this happening to them. And they had no recourse because they were paid for the reservation, even though not the total number of points used.

I think it's a sales tactic. We got a great deal renting a THV in October. Now we're buying...

That seems really shady to me. DVC has no proof the owner received compensation for the rental. And why would they allow the renter to make changes on site but not over the phone?

I am with you, I can't see this happening. What if the change made it such that they needed to use borrowed points? I cannot imagine them making a change without the verbal consent of the owner.
