Going for the first time with a family that has been. She told me had to book on property so we could get free dining, and I picked a value resort on the list. Disney planner got back with me and said my room wasn't eligible for free dining that they were out .I said ok and booked anyway with out dining . I'm excited to have the planner but I priced out the trip on the Disney World website and it is saying hundreds of dollars cheaper for the same resort and same tickets....is this normal???

Contact the planner and point out the discrepancy. Ask them to book you in the less expensive package or cancel the reservation. It's possible that this discount was not available at the time that you booked. However, a good Disney travel agent (note:I did not say "planner"!) would have been on the lookout for a better rate for you.

no way I'd ever give up control of a reservation to a travel agent... I did that once for a cruise and regretted it greatly. My best advise is to purchase the unofficial guide to disney world and do it yourself... and note that free dining isn't always the best deal.
