First time waitlisting

I've had to waitlist for the first time, a random Tuesday in October 2018, only a few weeks after the 11 month window, so I was kind of surprised to not find availability. The rest of my 13 nights I've secured without issue.

I've been reading mixed reports about the success of waitlisting, vs. regularly checking back yourself for availability. Any advice?

I would be on a wait list, and check availability every few days also. Oct is a peak time for DVC good luck. I would think you will be okay, just hang in there.
