Hi. I just started a Face Book group, "Disney January 2016 Planning Group". Come join us if you're on FaceBook. Its just starting out but hopefully we can get others to join.
I'm glad you started this thread because I was about to post the same question. I've been to Disney in the May, September and December but we are planning a January trip. We will be there the 3-7th, catching the last day of Christmas events and the first day of the marathon. Will the parades change on the 4th to a new theme or can we expect to see the same electrical parade and dance party parades that we just saw in September? I have a 2 year old that loved them.
We are not from the cold cold north, but we like the cooler temps. Coming from the Mid-Atlantic region should up the temps just enough to really be nice!
We have gone in January several times and love it! It's always been crowded as far as lots of people, but very manageable lines and wait times. We are actually going last week of Jan. 16
Weather is all over the place, bring some summer clothes, winter wear and mostly stuff for in between we've had trips where it's been hot, flip flops and swimming and a few days later spent the whole day layered up. But for the most part it's usually jeans and a tshirt weather, with a light jacket for mornings and evenings.
We've always tried to avoid the MLK week/weekend. I would think you'd need a pretty good touring plan...i would go by the crowd calendars esp for that weekend and then do RDs, FP late morning into afternoon..lunch somewhere in there...afternoon resort break, then back in the evenings for fireworks. Good thing about jan is most shows are either 7,8,or 9 latest.
I'm sure you'll find January refreshing compared to summer. Have fun!
We are there the 10-14th after our Galveston to Puerto Rico cruise.
When we made our dining reservations EXACTLY at 180 days there were still reservations we couldn't get - mainly times we wanted, but still no BOG for dinner. So not as busy as summer, but there really aren't "slow" times any more.

Thank you for asking the Questions and for everyones answers! We are going to be there from the 12th -26th. We know it will be busy MLK weekend but we are just taking Saturday and Monday as hotel hopping days.
Thanks for the input on the weather that one has had me really worried. I don't want to pack to much but don't want to not pack enough to bring. We plan on doing laundry so that will help. Our only other trip there was in Sept. 08 and coming from the west in Oregon we about died fro the humidity and the heat. LOL
I totally agree about the weather being potentially much more chilly than many people think. We were there this past January and some days we started out in full winter coats. The first night in the Germany pavilion we about froze to death because we hadn't thought to bring coats to the park and it was terribly windy in addition to cold. Always have a coat, lol.
