First time to WDW, must ride rides?

We are going to Disney World in June and are only planning one day in each park. However, we are planning a VIP tour day for the first day and were initially thinking of only using it on Magic Kingdom. We are now rethinking this and converting the first day to a park hopper so we can hit the hard to get fastpass+ rides (we are staying off property so we can only book 30 days prior).

Which rides usually have the longest wait times and are the hard to get fastpass+ rides in each park?

FYI... if you go with a park hopper, it will have to be for all your park days. Unless you have a totally separate ticket for that first day.

Gonna disagree with previous poster a bit. At Epcot, Test Track is often harder to get than Frozen Ever After. And at Studios, Millennium Falcon is just starting fastpasses, so it’s hard to know if that will be as bad as Slinky Dog. And as of right now, VIP isn’t getting access to Rise of the Resistance. Don’t expect it to change b6 June, but you never know.

I put Frozen Ever After only because I know it's a ride that is geared towards all ages. When we rode it with a fasptass there were a lot of families doing it, as well as adults. During our trip Test track was down for refurbishment. But if it wasn't, I would've chosen FEA still for the Tier 1, then rope dropped Test track since it isn't as far of a walk like Frozen is. Then go to Soarin' while it was still short.

HS is a tricky one, I'll admit. Thankfully the tiers were just redone. To me, I would still pick SDD over SR. SR has a higher capacity than Slinky, so that can impact the line some. If things change with ROTR by June, and they have fastpasses, I would def pick ROTR.

I haven't been to Disney in 5 years, so I haven't seen Pandora or Galaxy's Edge, and I can take or leave roller coasters, but I won't feel like I've been to MK if I haven't done Peter Pan, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion. And in Epcot, I just adore Soarin' - though I also haven't seen the new one. I definitely go to Disney for the atmosphere, not the thrills!

To me, this is a different question than which rides are "must do" as the title suggests. But to answer this question, my opinion:

AK - Flight of Passage. The Safari wait times can get long too. So can Everest, but there is a single rider line there at least.

HS - Slinky Dog. Smugglers Run has long waits too, but no FP+ at the moment. I think it will by June though? So whenever that happens, I would say that will rival Slinky Dog in terms of difficult FP+ to obtain. Rock n Rollercoaster gets long but has a single rider, and TOT can become long at times as well. But we've always had decent luck getting TOT and RnRC as 4th FPs.

MK - Mine Train, and IMO, its not worth a long standby time so we skip it if we can't get the FP. Same goes for Peter Pan.

Epcot - Test Track or Frozen Ever After. Toss up for me. They both go down a lot, and it can be tricky to snag these as a 4th FP. We always opt for a Test Track FP when booking at 60 days out because we'd be bummed if we missed that ride due to a long wait, but not so bummed if we had to miss FEA.

Smugglers FP starts Feb 19, I believe.
