Next week, we are going to HHI for the first time for 4 days. It will be me, DW, DS (10) and DD(8). What should we not miss in regards to activities and food? Will the weather be unbearably hot, so sitting by the pool or beach will be the extent of our activities?

You'll receive a list of activities at check-in that will appeal to each and every member of yor party.

Yes, it will be hot. Unbearable may be a matter of opinion since I like that kind of heat while sitting round the beach, but others sure don't.

Personally, sitting by the pool and lounging at the beach are top-notch at HHI.

Otherwise a good dolphin cruise (try Low-Country Adventures), the trip with the Disney Naturalist, pool games at the beach house, fireworks, the campfire and night swim in the Big Dipper and kayaking in the bay are our favorites. We skip the B-B-Que and have yet to try Chef Gordon.

Kids night out at the movies gives you and DW some free time to eat a good meal (see other posts to this forum on dining recommendations) or hitting the outlets.

Best of all is the relaxing nature and easy pace of HHI. You can't go wrong just doing nothing.

Enjoy

P.S. Sign up for the things that you want to do right away. They will sell-out. Usually, as soon as we check-in, one of us un-packs (me  ) while the other (DW :hyper: ) goes straight to the check-in window near the pool.

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking that a dolphin cruise was a must for us and kayaking sounds like fun. Relaxing and doing things on the fly seems like the way to go in HHI. I am used to WDW vacations where it is go, go, go - up early, PS for dinner, etc. We will be in the deep south, so the pace is slower - they will love my NE accent!!

OMG...Kelly...thank you so much for posting all of your pictures!!! I REALLY would love to go to HH next august.....but I don't own there, so I will see at the 7 month window if it is even a possibility.......

MikeBW --

We'll be in HHI next week too (see my counter below). We have three kids (DS9 and 4 , and DD 6). This will be our first trip there too. We'll be driving from Phila, PA (approx 12 hours). These boards have been a great source of info for all our trips. Here's to a great week at HHI !!!

We enjoyed the program by the campfire in Feb.....but then it was cold and the heat of the campfire was more than welcome. This time of year, it might be uncomfortable.

Yes, its hot here now.....HH is probably a bit cooler because of being an island and probably getting a breeze or two....but I haven't checked it out for myself. Here in the midlands, its hot. Very hot.

Have fun!

We're checking in Saturday! I can't wait. It's me, hubby, daughter, and son-in-law.

We were at HHI the third week of July in 2002 and the heat index hovered around 118 degrees most days. I don't know if it's always that hot then or not.

It didn't keep us from any of the activities though, and with two pools and the beach, there are plenty of opportunities for relaxing and cooling off.

Here's a link to pics from our trip last month.
