I'm a Disney World veteran, my sister and I go every year. At the end of this month I will be heading to Disneyland for the first time with two friends of mine. One is a wheelchair and while I've traveled with her before to Chicago and St. Louis, nothing like Disneyland. How does it work and what should we expect. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Disneyland Park was built long before the ADA and is not as accessible as WDW. Most of the attraction queues are not mainstreamed and you will have to use alternate entrances. And a lot of curb cuts have been put in.

California Adventure is very accessible and just about all the queues are mainstreamed. Some of the attractions, such as TSM, you will get pulled out of the queue close to boarding.

Two years ago, I went to DL solo for a week. I was on week 7 of medical leave from surgery so took Hubby's ECV with me "just in case".

Yes, at DL almost every attraction had alternate entrances. I felt almost guilty as some of the lines were kind of long!!

However, I did get off the ECV and went through Tarzan's treehouse and I was shaking afterwards, so realized then that I couldn't have done the trip without one.

I am a VERY frequent visitor to WDW, and we stay on property and with hubby using the ECV, we're on a lot of buses and getting anywhere takes forever!

I found DL to be quite refreshing in it's small size. I had considered getting one of the local bus passes, but really found it unnecessary. My hotel was less than a mile from the DL entrance on Katella, and I just rode the ECV to the parks and back. Had lots of restaurants at the River Walk shopping complex right next to my hotel, and of course all the restaurants at Disney.

My hotel was less than $50 a night, and I was able to leave Main Street after the fireworks and was at my hotel in 10 minutes.

NO WAY to do that at WDW unless you stay at the Contemporary :=)
