I have been reading through some of these posts and am feeling a little overwhelmed, my you are all well voiced in all things Disney! I am taking my grandchildren to Disney World for a week this year for the first time (for all of us) I am considering the Deluxe Dining Plan, could anyone suggest some restaurants that we may like being this is our first trip. My grandchildren are comfortable eating out and do not have trouble sitting still for meals.
Thanks for your help!
p.s. oops almost forgot to add, the children are 19, 15, 11 and 7. The older two are boys and the younger two girls

Definitely Cinderella's Royal Table for breakfast! We loved the food and you get a photo package and you can't beat eating in the castle :)

Enjoy your trip!!

Congratz on your first time you all are going to have a blast! My fiance and I haven't been to too many of restaurants at Disney because there are sooooo many, but let me give you some suggestions of the best ones I have had. I would suggest doing a healthy mix of character meals and non character meals since there are such a variety of ages. Your girls will love all the princess character experiences, so they would love Cinderella's Royal Table in Magic Kingdom and the boys might not mind that one as well, there is also the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom and I heard they have amazing food, we are trying this one for the first time in May, it is also a character meal. In Disney's Hollywood Studios there is the 50s Prime Time Cafe and the Sci Fi Drive In Theater. These two will probably go over really well with the boys the cafe is 50s themed and you can watch old television shows while you eat:thumbsup2 At the Sci Fi Drive In it's just what it sounds you sit in cars inside the restaurant while you eat and watch old Sci Fi films. In Epcot, Le Cellier in the world showcase gets many good reviews and you can't really go wrong with the pizza places there like Via Napoli also in the world showcase. Oh if you all get a chance you might want to try a dinner show like Hoop De Doo Revue, we haven't been to this one yet, but we mean to in the near future it is located in the Fort Wilderness Resort I do believe and all the places I have listed are covered by the dining plan. Good luck on your trip you all are going to love it:banana:

I would recommend Cinderella's Royal Table (inside the castle), Sci Fi (DHS), and Coral Reef (Epcot). Those are all places to eat that are special because of the atmosphere (though the food is good too). I would also recommend checking out some of the signature restaurants at the resorts like Jiko or California Grill. I absolutely LOVE the Deluxe Dining Plan...but it is a LOT of food...so you will probably want to work in some signature meals if you can that use up 2 credits. Anywhere you eat will be good. There are lots of restaurants at Epcot that are fun. In MK the choices are more limited but I liked Liberty Tree Tavern in addition to Cinderella's Royal Table. At AK I would recommend Yak and Yeti. I recommend checking out the menus and reviews to see what appeals to you the most.

Have a great time!

Ohana at the Polynesian is a must for us, as well as the Crystal Palace. I would try California Grill and watch the fireworks from the top! Narcossee's and Yak & Yeti are two others we enjoy and 50s Prime is fun. Have a fabulous trip to the WDW.

We always do the regular dining plan and love it! Some of our absolute favorite places to eat are: 50's Prime Time (The atmosphere is so much fun! It's like eating in a old 50's kitchen with a family member as your waiter/waitress and the food is great) Ohana (This is like eating in Hawaii! We go for Dinner but the breakfast gets good reviews. This would be a wonderful place to go with a big family group) Chef Mickey's (This place gets mixed reviews, but we love it! It is a character meal, I'm not sure how your oldest kids will feel about that, but I can tell you that I am 18 years old and I absolutely love the character meals! No doubt the younger ones will enjoy it though. We've always had good food and good service there) I think you're girls would enjoy any of the character meals with the princesses, we have only tried 1900 Park Fare, but there is also Cinderella's Royal Table and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot. A few more that my family really enjoys are Kona Cafe, Le Cellier, and Coral Reef. I hope this helped some and I hope you guys have a great vacation! :wizard:

We love the character breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom, our kids are now 22 & 24 and they still love to go there LOL!!

We love the restaurants at World Showcase, so much choice.

Prime Time cafe is fun for all ages.

Because you are on the DxDDP I would definitely take advantage of at least one signature dining. I would say all are kid friendly, but I think the kids might like California Grill because of the great view or maybe Narcoosee's.
People of all ages love character breakfasts, so I would definitely do one or two of those. I would look at the characters that the different breakfasts have and then choose that way.

These are some of our favorite restaurants:

Magic Kingdom - We like Crystal Palace for breakfast with Pooh and Friends. We also like to go over to the Grand Floridian for 1900 Park Fare for dinner with Cinderella, Prince Charming and the Step Sisters.

Hollywood Studios - We like Sci Fi for lunch and we like Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic Package for dinner.

Epcot - We like Teppen Edo, Chef's de France, and Le Cellier.

Animal Kingdom - We usually pay oop and eat at Rainforest Cafe.

Downtown Disney - We love Raglan Road.

Have a great time.

How many nights are you staying? Where are you staying?

We like the following restaurants:

At the Magic Kingdom - Cinderella's Royal Table (princess character for breakfast, lunch, or dinner) - this might be a good "first night" meal; Crystal Palace (character meal w/ Pooh & Friends); Tony's Town Square; & Liberty Tree Tavern.

At EPCOT - Coral Reef, Garden Grill, a World Showcase Restaurant (we like to do a different one every year - Le Cellier, San Angel Inn, Tutto Italia, Teppan Edo...)

At DHS - Sci-Fi Dine-In or Mama Melrose's

At AK - We're trying Yak & Yeti for the 1st time this year; we also enjoy the character breakfast at Tusker House

Resorts - Chef Mickey's for breakfast (Contemporary Resort), Kona Cafe for dinner (at the Poly), 'Ohana (at the Poly), Whispering Canyon Cafe (at the Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (a signature restaurant at the Contemporary), Boma (at the Animal Kingdom Lodge).

For your first time to WDW w/ kids your grandkids' ages, I would probably try the following:

Arrival Night - Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner

1st MK Day - counterservice/snack for breakfast, Liberty Tree Tavern or Tony's Town Square for lunch, & Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner

1st EPCOT Day (Future-World) - counterservice/snack for breakfast, Seasons (counterservice) for lunch, & Coral Reef for dinner

DHS Day - counterservice/snack for breakfast, Sci-Fi for lunch, Mama Melrose's or Brown Derby for dinner (Fantasmic Dinner Package) or one of the EPCOT restaurants for dinner - Cape May (at the Beach Club) or Flying Fish (at the Boardwalk)

AK Day - Tusker House for breakfast, Flame Tree (counterservice) for lunch, & Boma for dinner

2nd EPCOT Day (World Showcase) - Chef Mickey's for breakfast, counterservice for lunch, Tutto Italia or Teppan Edo or San Angel Inn for dinner

2nd MK Day (& last day) - Crystal Palace for breakfast, counterservice for lunch, & either 'Ohana or California Grill for dinner

What a wonderful grandparent you are!! Have fun choosing & let us know what you decide!!

Welcome to the disboards

For MK - CP and CRT
Epcot - Chef de France and LeCellier
HS- Brown Derby
AK - Tusker House breakfast

Since you have DxDDP - our family loves Citricos, Narcoossee's, Jiko and Flying Fish.

Look at the menu and see what the family will be interested in.

Hi Elaine,

I just wanted to mention...

The Deluxe Dining Plan is a lot of food and $$, (all but the youngest are considered adults for dining and tickets.) To get the most value for the money paid for the DxDP, you will mostly want to use your dining credits for Table Service meals, (TS) which require time. Since this is your/their first trip, they may not want to spend that much time sitting in restaurants as it will subtract from their touring time. Another factor is the crowd prediction for the time of year you will be visiting. Early Dec. is great but if you are planning over the holidays, crowds and wait times will be high and will also cut into the time you actually get to experience the attractions. One suggestion is to schedule a 1 credit and a 2 credit meal per day so your are only taking time to do 2 TS meals. Of course, you know your grandchildren best and should make your decision based on your family's preferences.

My family always enjoys one TS meal each day. We choose our restaurants to experience a little of everything... some for the food, some for the fun, some for the atmosphere, etc.

Here are some of our favorites -

In or near MK -

California Grill @ The Contemporary, (2 credits.)
Kona @ The Poly
Crystal Palace in MK, Winnie the Pooh & Friends buffet character meals. (We prefer breakfast foods at buffets.)
Chef Mickey's @ The Contemporary, Mickey & Friends buffet character meal. (Again, we prefer breakfast.)

In Epcot - (No need to leave this park to dine, too many good options!)

Teppan Edo in Japan.
LeCellier in Canada.
Coral Reef, (one entire wall is an aquarium.)

In Disney's Hollywood Studios -

Cape May Buffet @ the Beach Club. (Take the boat from DHS, nice and relaxing and you get to check out some other resorts.)
Si-Fi Dine-In, sit in cars at the drive-in movies. (A couple of our kids always pick this one.)
Consider booking a Fantasmic Package.

Animal Kingdom -

Since this park closes early, we usually dine at one of the Downtown Disney restaurants later in the evening, although we have enjoyed the character meal here, as well as Yak & Yeti's.

*Since you will be staying at the GF... I have had good meals at the Grand Floridian Cafe. We enjoyed the character interaction at Cinderella's Royal Gala, but I wasn't impressed with the food. However, your granddaughters might enjoy it.

Remember you can make dining reservations 180 days out. If you schedule restaurants in or near the park you will be visiting that day, you can cut down on traveling time to and from the restaurant. Check the Park Calendar for park hours, (when it becomes available) and try to decide which park you'll visit each day. If you buy the Hopper Passes, you can visit multiple parks each day but remember it takes time to travel from park to park.

Have a great trip. :wizard:

Welcome Elaine! When will you be going to WDW? With the DxDDP you will be able to use some of your credits for signature dinning.

A late Dinner at California Grill at the Contemporary would be wonderful. You can watch the MK fireworks from the restaurant.

We love Kona at the Poly. It has a varied menu from sushi to steaks and the food is very good.

On AK days we make a dinner ADR for Boma since AKL is so close to the park. It is a buffet, and the food is wonderful. Even though flavors of Africa is the theme, there is nothing out of the ordinary and everyone will find things they love.

Eating at the castle at MK with the princesses is a must for the first time. We're going with friends this year who are taking their DGD 7 to Disney for the first time. We're going to do a morning Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment then have lunch with the Princesses. I think it will be a very memorable afternoon.

At DHS we like to have lunch at Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater (we like the lunch menu better than the dinner menu) It is fun to sit in the cars and watch the old horror movie trailers. Then we usually have dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe.
The servers act like an uncle or cousin and tell you to keep you elbows off the table. I went with friends this past year. We took a 12 year old boy. The server called him Skippy and told him to rid the table. He did and followed the server to the kitchen with dishes in hand. It was hilarious.

Other restaurants that we like to go to for the atmosphere and good food are: Coral Reef (the aquarium), San Angel Inn ( it is perpetual twilight with an erupting volcano), Restaurant Marrakesh (belly dancer and Moroccan music), Crystal Palace ( beautiful restaurant and Pooh and friends are at every meal), Hoop Dee Doo Revue is a fun show that everyone will enjoy and the food is great down home comfort food.

Have fun deciding. I think all the restaurants have such varied menus that they appeal to a wide variety of taste.
