I've tried reading as much as I can on how renting points works.
I've looked at the points calculator to figure out amounts and whatnot.
But I have some questions if y'all don't mind helping me out.
We're planning on going ......(Edited to remove specific details.)............
How would I go about finding someone here to rent the point with VS using Daves website?
If I do find someone here, besides having a printed confirmation of the ressie with my name on it, what other way can I protect myself?
And the earliest I can book is 11 months out, what other cost besides purchasing the points are there?
Any tips?
Sorry:guilty: I'm new at dvc, but I want to surprise my husband with a stay there for our anniversary

If you want to rent points at a particular resort you will have to find a owner to rent from and secure that reservation at 11 months, especially going at that time of year. Very, very busy time for DVC.

If you don't want to rent from owners you need to call David's right away and tell them what you want. Hopefully they can help you.

Renting points takes a leap of faith on both ends. You, as a renter are sending a large amount of money to a total stranger and the owner is tying up their points and hoping the renter doesn't back out or incur damages that they will be responsible for. Other than requesting a rental contract I know of no other ways to protect yourself when you rent points. There are no other costs involved other than paying for the points in the rental process.

We are owners but have rented points on 3 separate occasions when we were out of points. All of our transactions were problem free and great experiences.

Good luck with your planning and please come back and let us know how things turn out for you.

If you haven't already, read all of the "Sticky Threads" at the top of the DIS DVC Rent/Trade Board. (You must be logged in to access that forum). You'll find lots of helpful information there.

I had to edit your post to remove specific information concerning your rental The DIS does not allow rental posts (or any with enough information to be construed as one) anywhere except on the Rent/Trade Board. I know that was not your intent. (I sent you a PM to explain further). General questions about the process are welcome.

You will be able to link your DVC rental reservation to MDE. As long as it shows there, it is legit.

Good luck with your research.
