First time renting a car- did I do it right?

So I've been searching and searching for information regarding rental cars- never rented one before and actually I'm not renting one this time either. DBF is!

I realized that I could book a rental at one price and if a cheaper car came out that I could cancel one and book the other one. So tonight in my search, I found a fare through Thrifty for a week rental (1/2-1/7) for $144 for a compact (including taxes... 109.49 for the week without).

I would have liked a rental at the airport but does anyone disagree that it probably doesn't get cheaper than that (and I will be paying much more at the airport) and I should stop looking?

Actually you can do much better and not have to use a shuttle. Do you belong to BJ's, Costco or have an Amex card? Using their discount codes, you should be able to lower your price. It can vary a lot depending on your dates.
We got a full size thru Alamo for next week for $103 including taxes using their discount code and a coupon for 1 day free.
If you're under 25, there's an additional fee for that.
Check out mousesavers.com and try some discount codes.
Recheck prices periodically since they go up and down a lot. (I think I've rebooked about 10 times!)
If you can't get a better price, at least you know you tried.

Thanks for the opinion, I'll keep checking.

DBF will be the one renting the car- he is over 25 (I'm not and won't be driving to save that $25 a day!) I made sure to put the reservation in his name.

I believe he has a costco card so I will look into that (definitely not BJ's or AmEx).

I have a AAA card but since I'm not going to be driving, I can't use the discounts right?
