Hi All. Been to USO/IOA many many times over the past 5 years or so but have always stayed on site at either RPR or HR. We have typically visited during non peak times like early March/April, or early November. Well our next trip to Orlando is mostly Disney focused as we have not been in a few years but my DD16 and nephew 17 have requested at least 1 day at Uni.
Our dilemma is what to do about express pass. Our dates are 12/6 - 12/11. We were considering making Saturday 12/7 our Universal day. The parks are open 9-8 and we'd like to avoid the Saturday crowds at WDW. No idea what Uni is like at that time of year. This would be our first full day of the trip so there has been some talk of doing a split stay and checking in to RPR or HR for our first night and having express on Saturday then moving to our off site 2 br/2 ba suite and focusing the rest of our trip on WDW.
To add to the mix, my nephew has a DAS and on their visit last year was usually told to go through the express lane. But, he won't do certain rides.
Not sure if we need express/on site for this trip. We will definitely have P2P passes. Our goal will be to get 1-2 turns on most of the rides excluding water rides (too cold) and the big coasters (too chicken). We've all seen both HP lands a bunch of times so we won't spend a ton of time there, mostly just riding and moving on.
Staying at a deluxe:
Pros - guaranteed express, proximity to City Walk for the first night for dinner, easy walk to parks in the morning
Cons - additional cost about $100 to stay on site instead of at the suites resort, all crammed in one room for one night, having to move hotels/not getting settled
Questions for the experts -
1 - what are the crowds like mid/early December?
2 - is express pass even needed if we have the DAS for my nephew? we will probably not split up at all since it's only a one day visit
3 - is Saturday a poor choice for a one day trip due to local AP holders? Made that mistake at US in CA once... black out dates don't start until 12/21
4 - would you bother with a split stay for just 1 night?
5 - anything special the parks do at Christmas like at WDW?
