I am trying to avoid checking bags on this trip so I need some help with toiletry type items. For the following items, do they need to be included in the quart size zip lock bag and if not, is there a limit to the amount you can bring?

Solid Deodorant, anti-bac hand wipes, baby wipes, make up remover pads/wipes (are wet but not a liquid).

Also if you have brought tweezers, nail clippers, or small cosmetic scissors (less than 4 inches), have you ever had to keep them accessable for the security check to see them?

Thanks in advance!

You do not need to put solid deodorant, anti-bac wipes, baby wipes, make up remover wipes (individually packaged) in your quart size bags. You can also bring as many as you like or as big as you want to carry. Only liquids and gels. 3.4 ounces or less, that would not maintain their shape if removed from their container have to go into a quart size bag. I have never had a problem bringing tweezers or nail clippers through security.

Same here, I have nail clippers, tweezers, & small scissors in my carry on and only once did TSA want to see the scissors. I keep cosmetic bag close just in case. Like other post as long as it 3.4 oz or less not problem with liquids. Mascara is considered liquid, so that need to be in qt. bag. Lipstick does not, but lip gloss does. you can go to tsa.gov and get complete list of regulations.

And pastes - and anything with similar consistencies.
Solid or spray deodorant - no.
Gel or roll-on deodorant - yes.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich - no.
Peanut butter or jelly packets/cups - yes.
Tooth powder - no.
Toothpaste - yes.
Antibacterial wipes - no.
Antibacterial hand gel - yes.
etc, etc, etc...

Thanks everyone! I've always felt confident with knowing what could and couldn't come in the carry on, but now without a check bag, I feel like I'm trying to push the limits!

I noticed the first response said individually wrapped make up wipes, so I couldn't do something like the almay pack below?

I'm assuming a pomade, such as this one needs to go in the baggie?

The makeup remover pads should be fine outside the 3-1-1 bag. They're substantially solid, dampened with perhaps a little liquid at the bottom.

The pomade, you're right, needs to go in the bag. We forgot to list "creams" among the 3-1-1 restrictions.

Now things may have changed but last year my husbands small mustache scissors - about three and a half inches in length total - blade is rounded on the end and maybe an inch and a half (very tiny), was confiscated. We thought it was okay to take it in the carry on but the TSA person said no and they kept it. If we had thought it was even an iffy thing we would never have brought it. We like to be "easy" customers.

I use two clear bags. In one bag I put all of our liquid items and in the other I put all of our solid items. I know the solids are okay but for me if I accidently goof up then it is already in bag. At our local Target store I found a clear plastic cosmetics bag with a zipper which I use instead of a plastic bag.

FWIW, one of the issues you will find is that how certain things are treated may vary from one airport to another, or even from one TSA screener to another. Some TSA personnel just don't know what the rules are (like those who force people to dump contact lens solution, which is exempt from the 3-1-1 rules along with prescription and OTC medicines) and others simply have different interpretations of things that fall into gray areas. As a result, what you can and can't take on board isn't always certain and, frequently, it's not worth the effort to argue the decision.
