First time in a while

We are heading down to Disney World for the first time in like 8 years, and I was just wondering if September is a good time to go. I have been told that it is a lot less crowded, but when I am trying to make dinner reservations no place has seating available. Did I pick the right time?

The 'free dining' program is still running during September, so that's why you're having trouble getting reservations for meals.

Does this mean there will be more people down then, or just everyone that is going is getting free meals

I don't think it'll be crowded - but the vast majority of visitors are on the free dining plan, so of course restaurants will be booked solid.

I hope that is true because, I hate crowds, but love warm weather.

Since Disney has started the free dining promo , the parks are not as empty as they once were.I didn't think it was too bad, but my SIL who had heard the parks were "dead" was disappointed.She was expecting no waits for anything, being able to ride stuff over and over again.This is not the case waits are usually 20 mins or less.The restaurants on the other hand are PACKED.I saw many many ticked off people with no dining ressies trying to find some place, any place to use their TS credits. I also saw people at CS places getting very upset, because there were lines.Try dining at off peak times at CS and you'll do fine.The Ts places are pretty packed no matter what.I also hope you like the heat.Last year was brutally hot and humid.( the end of Sept)All in all it is still a good time to go.

i am a huge fan of the heat so that won't bug me at all. The last time we went was over Memorial Day and waits were as long as 2 hours for certain rides and i just didn't want to do that again. I have already booked Breakfast and Lunch/Diner everyday at the parks, but i took the Deluxe Plan since they offered it to me for $30 since I didn't want the BDP. So we have another meal that will just be a quick service meal somewhere.
