Well I skipped 8 years between the 1996 trip and the 2004 trip when my oldest son was 3 (My boys are now 10.5 and 5). We then went in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and then my last trip with them was June 2009 and a separation and divorced stopped the family Disney vacations. My boys went last October with their dad and aunt so they have been fairly recently. Fast forward to now and I am planning a trip in February with my boyfriend, who has never been. I am going to have to be a little less of a Disney nazi this trip, and I will be toning down the usual park touring plans. I feel a little bad the boys aren't going with us (I mean it is Disney and they love it!), but we aren't at the point to have a vacation together with my children. So anyway. I will be checking out this board a lot to get some tips for adults traveling without kids, things to do, etc. I won't know what to think not carrying around a bunch of stuff! LOL

Hi!

I am fairly new to the dis boards and all things Disney, but I got quite a laugh out of your quote; "won't know what to think not carrying around a bunch of stuff" :lmao:

my dh and I are planning a trip together next year. This will only be our second trip. Our first was this past Feb. with our three little girls. We have been through a lot, including the loss of a child...so we are long over due for some R&R. I too am a lil worried about going without the kiddos - but also excited for some peace and quiet. It's going to be so strange not having to go into a restaurant and ask for 2 high chairs and to be cutting up 3 meals!! :rolleyes1

What kinds of things do you plan on doing while you are there? Any tips for romantic things to do there???

Well my three little girls are going WILD :scared1: so I better run for now! Happy planning to you guys!!!

I am so sorry.

I hear that!!

I am not really worried about them not being with me because they will be with their dad. I just have a bit of guilt. :guilty: Then there is the flying thing. I am terrifed to fly, but my boyfriend would not even consider going in a car. So I had to give in on that part of it. Right now I am ok. Closer to time to go I'm sure I will be freaking out!

I have no idea about romantic ideas. Would love to hear some though!

Since I don't want to overdo things, I am planning on only 3 full park days. Magic Kingdom, DHS and IOA (gotta see the new Harry Potter area). Maybe go one afternoon/evening to another park just to eat or something. Not sure about anything else. Just starting to decide about restaurants.

Happy planning to you too!

I hear you about not wanting to fly! I absolutely HATE to fly..it's one of my biggest fears. In fact, our three little girls had a blast flying for the first time, mommy on the other hand was on the verge of tears and a mental break down!!!!!!!! It didn't help that the pilot on the way home was CRAZY! I mean that lady gunned it when we took off! My hubby is an air traffic controller - so he works with pilots all day long and even he was like 'daggum' when she took off! LOL And when we would hit turbulence (sp?) - forget it! I literally thought I was going to pass out! HA HA

Basically, I am a terrible flyer!

My hubby and I are going in just a few weeks for our first trip not taking the kiddos. We have reservations at a few restaurants that we wouldn't necessarily do with them and figure we will just relax and do mostly the late extra magic hours in the parks. We are very excited, just a little nervous about leaving the 22 month old behind... the 5, 8, and 10 year old won't miss us at all! They are all in good hands with my sister-in-law, just have never left her before (except going to work or on short date nights!)
We would love to hear any ideas of going as adults too! We are doing Boma, Jiko, (we are staying at AK Villas), Via Napoli, Brown Derby and Les Chefs France. We are going for 3 nights....

You will have to let us know when you got back how everything went and where we should go! :)

I love AKL! Have stayed there twice and just love it. I have thought about Jiko this time around (have been to Boma a few times). I definitely want to eat somewhere I usually cannot with the boys. I will have to let my BF check out the menu. I was thinking California Grill. I have eaten there once, the food was wonderful, but I didn't really enjoy the meal because my kids were awful!

I am also a little at odds with my upcoming trip with my mother and aunt. I took a Disney trip without my 3 daughters 12yrs ago and had a blast. However I now have a 4yr old who I am never away from. My mother and I took DS in May and that was his 2nd trip. In planning with my mom we both kinda looked at each other and said, "um we don't know how to plan without kids!" lol But then the reality of what we will be able to do hit us....Food and Wine fest? YES! I don't drink in front of my kids so this trip I will finally be able to try Sake and potentially go over to the Hard Rock(which as a music fanatic is awesome!) bc I never leave my kids when we go on vacation I will have the oppurtunity to "play" in the world and NOT ride "it's a small world" or any other ride that drives me insane! :) I also have been thinking about what I'm gonna carry/not carry....lol and not pushing a stroller! My back is celebrating right now!

I know what you mean! Instead of straight to Dumbo it will be straight to Space Mountain! LOL We might skip all of Fantasyland except for Mickey's Philharmagic! :-)
