We are going to a wedding in California in September. Our family has never been to california so we have never been to Disneyland. We go to Disney World all the time, but don't know anything about Disneyland.

Are there discounts on rooms like they have in Disney World?

What are the reasons to choose one hotel over another?

Any restaurant favorites?

We will definitely be riding Mr. Toad's Ride and anything else that we don't have in Disney World, any suggestions?

As WDW vet, I highly recommend taking a look at HydroGuy's DLR Guide for WDW Vets. It has a lot of good information and can help you get a sense of the similarities and differences between DLR and WDW.

DLR does not generally have as many or as deep of discounts as WDW on their hotels. They also tend to have more blockout dates. Ttere are only three on-site hotels: Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Paradise Pier. They aren't directly comparable to WDW hotel categories (Deluxe, Moderates, and Value). GCH is the most expensive and located closest to the parks. DLH is the next most expensive and has an amazing pool and a lot of nostalgia-factor. PPI is the least expensive, but still more expensive than the All Stars. In terms of selecting a hotel, it depends on what amenities you are looking for. It's also worth noting that there are several motels on Harbor Blvd and the surrounding areas that are less expensive and just as close (if not closer) than the on-site hotels.

In terms of dining, DLR has a good selection, but not as many locations as WDW (as expected because there are fewer hotels and parks). My favorites are Cafe Orleans (DL), Blue Bayou (DL), Carnation Cafe (DL), Big Thunder BBQ (DL), Brennan's Jazz Kitchen (DTD), Storyteller (GCH), and Carthay Circle (DCA). There are also several good counter service options (e.g., French Market (DL), Plaza Inn (DL), Earl of Sandwich (DTD)) and lounges (e.g., Carthay Circle Lounge). If you want to look at some food photos, check out the Disneyland Dining thread.
