Hello everyone!

I am going to Disney World this June. It will be my first time ever and my wife's 9th time. She used to go all the time as a child with her family. I have never even been to Florida in the first place.

I am excited and really looking forward to this trip.

My question is this, hopefully someone will respond:

What Disney Resort do you all recommend me and my wife stay at? We're in our mid-20's and have no children.

Thank you. :earsboy:

First of all may I be the first to welcome you to these boards!!! Ask all the questions you have and I am positive someone here will have an answer for you.

Now abour where to stay. Iif you want convience, stay at one of the monorail resorts. The Poly, Contemporary or the Grand Floridian. These are a bit pricey.

My favorite is Coronado Springs. It has a Southwest feel and beautiful decor. The pool and hot tub are the best!!!

I am sure you will get lots of feedback on people's favorites. It really depends on what intrests you and your budget!

Have fun planning your trip. You will find lots of information and help here!!!

Welcome on board!!!

Thank you for responding, Emma. :sunny:

I want something nice and near Disney (bear in mind I am utterly and completely ignorant to what Disney looks like, is, layout, distances, etc).

Our budget is moderate and of course we are looking for something nice and comfortable.

Geez, talk about being vague and general huh?

earthless...disney has 4 parks and an entertainment area...more resorts than you can imagine. What do you plan on doing while you are there? Where do you think you will spend all your time..and how many days are you staying?

We have stayed at all the moderate resorts and we weren't impressed..if we aren't staying in a deluxe..then we love the all star sports. It is Disney's value resort...the most conveniently laid out resort on disney property.

Sometimes you can get great rates at the Animal Kingdom lodge, or the swan and dolphin..all deluxe properties...with moderate type rates.

check out wdwig.com for more info.

I have never stayed at a monorail resort before, but I will this summer. However, all of my previous trips were as an adult, and I really found no problem with staying at a moderate. It's much easier to bounce aound with just a car or the buses when you don't have children to worry about. Plus, the monorail is very convenient to the MK, but I suspect you won't be spending the majority of your time there being that you don't have kids. I've stayed at the CBR and liked it, but I would recommend to be close to the main pool. ALso, at CBR, parking is very close to the rooms.
I would still recommend getting a car. Parking at the parks is free if you are a resort guest, and you can get budget rentals pretty cheap. Have fun!

Welcome!

First off, get yourself a copy of Birnbaum's WDW for Adults, or even the regular guide. This is an invaluable intro to all that WDW has to offer in one volume. You will have info on all parks, dining options, travel tips, etc. at your fingertips.

Once you look that over, you will have a better idea of the details you want to know about on these Boards.

My hubby and I go to WDW every year and have no kids. We have stayed at the Polynesian (deluxe), Port Orleads French Quarter and Carribbean Beach (moderates). Love them all.

Moderates are wonderful fors us. We always stay on WDW property and mods are good values.

Good luck!

Where can I find this guide? Amazon, Borders?

There is so much to Disney. For your first time I would recommend that you do visit the Magic Kingdom, but I wonder if you would enjoy EPCOT and MGM. If you were to stay in the Swan or Dolphin, these are not disney hotels but they are on disney property, or there are the disney resorts - Boardwalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club and these have activities at night as well as being walking distance to EPcOT and MGM.

One other possibility is how long you plan on going for. If you are only going for 5-6 days and can go Sunday thru Thursday, I would also recommend checking out the DVC rent/trade board. The Disney Vacation Club is similar to a timeshare but different. there are always owners who are trying to sell their points. You can usually get larger accomodations for less money.

Now as for going in June - DO NOT plan on doing the parks all day long. It is going to get hot in the afternoon. Plan your schedule so that you visit the park first thing in the morning. When it is time for lunch go back to the resort and relax and swim. Then at suppertime go back into the parks. It gets very hot. We always go in June or July and people think we are crazy but it is great when you realize you are forced to enjoy the other parts of disney besides the parks.

Are you going this June or next? it is cutting it close if you are planning on going this June. You might want to pick some dates and call and see what is available. Good luck and have fun planning!!!ºoº

jcanary,

We are going this June (June 13th-20th). But have family in Hollywood, FL. So we're only planning on staying on Disney property or around for four days.

I would like more information on that time sharing thing you suggested, but have no prior experience with doing such a thing.

As for what we will be doing? I guess we will try to do Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Universal Studios, etc. I am not completely sure.

I need to know what resort or hotel people recommend for this trip, you're right in that I need to hurry up and book something this week. :hyper:

My husband and I honeymooned in '98 at CBR and really enjoyed it. We went moderate because our budget was pretty low. If I had the money and could do it again, I would have stayed at a deluxe just because when kids come around it gets very much more expensive.

Only you know what you're willing to spend. Read up on the discounts here on the DIS, study all the saving info on Mousesavers.com and make a choice that works for you. I hope you have a great time!

By the way, DH and I are bringing DS's (4 and 2) in 5 weeks! We're staying at POR Riverside.

Sorry guys, but I am not keen on all of these acroynyms. :(

What is the CBR? Is that the Carribean Beach Resort?

Yes, it is. This is in my opinion the best moderate for adults. DH and I stayed at CBR for our honeymoon and loved it! It has a beautiful tropical theme. We were in Aruba which is just a short walk across a bridge from the food court, but isolated enough for it to be quiet and romantic. The main pool area is really fun for adults and children alike and has a great bar area. At night we always had the quiet pool to ourselves and could hang out in the hammocks watching the fireworks at Epcot. Even though it is a large resort, it never seemed crowded. We had a fabulous time! I would say that CBR is the perfect resort for anyone who is looking for a romantic place to relax.

Yes, here are some more to help

CR - Contemporary Resor
Poly - Polynesian
GF - Grand Floridian
AKL - Animal Kingdom Lodge
WL - Wilderness Lodge
CSR - Coronado Springs Resort
BWI - Boarwalk Inn
YC/BC - Yacht Club/Beach Club
OKW - Old Key West
PO - Port Orleans (one is Riverside, the other French Qtr)
ASMu - All Star Music
ASMo - All Star Movies
ASSp - All Star Sports

Thanks everyone for all of the help and advice. Lord knows I need all the hand-holding I can get.

Right now it seems split between the CBR or the CSR.

What I would reccomend is that you check out the website www.mousesavers.com, look under Walt Disney World Resorts and then go to most recent discounts. There are "discount codes" available right now for the dates your are traveling at WDW resorts. The curent code is BBY. If you call Central Reservations (CRO) and tell them the dates you are planning to visit and ask what rooms are available with that code, you might be surprised and get a decent price, even at one of the deluxe resorts. I know the Animal Kingdom Lodge is very popular on these boards and deeply discounted for your travel dates. There may or may not be rooms available still with this code since disney only sets aside a certain number of rooms per resort to offer at a discount. We are going June 4-11th and saved $100 a night on our room at the Poly.

Wow! So I just tell the CRO what dates I am looking for and the code of BBY??

Birnbaum guides are available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, AAA Travel Store, etc.

About $15.00, money well spent.
