First time ever staying at a DVC resort...what to expect? Differences?Similarities?

I think there are only 2 major differences between hotel WDW stays and DVC stays: the housekeeping schedule and the rooms. You will not get housekeeping services every day. As far as the rooms go, if you are staying at a resort that has DVC rooms and regular hotel rooms, the DVC rooms will be a little further from the main lobby (kind of tucked out of the way). Also, the room set up is different. While in a regular hotel room you would have a king bed or 2 queens, in a studio you will have 1 queen bed and 1 queen sleeper sofa (and some resorts now have a pull down small twin). You will also have a small kitchenette.

There are of course differences on how you book, when you book, etc., but when you are on property, you are treated just like every other Disney guest.
Most DVC studios have a queen bed and double sized sleeper sofa. OKW has two queen beds. Polynesian has one queen bed and one queen sleeper sofa. Some have the murphy bed.

The one thing I didn't see mentioned was Community Hall. Over by the quiet pool at BWV (at at the other resorts, just don't know where!) there is a building that has video game consoles and games, board games, movies available to use or borrow. My kids love to go play air hockey and get a movie to watch in the heat of the day while we have down time.

We love knowing that we will be back, and that it is ok to skip some things on some trips. Before we go, we each pick a "we will be sad if we don't..." thing (attraction, restaurant, whatever), and those are the priorities. Otherwise, we have a very relaxed, go with the flow kind of trip.
