Just booked a cruise for the first time, leaving from Port Canaveral, what is the best way to get from MCO to the port, rent a car or use a transportation company? We will be arriving the day before the cruise, are there any hotels around the port that would have a shuttle to the ship?
Thanks
Linda

We usually rent a car and stay at a hotel near the port. I know for sure Budget and Hertz have locations near the port that have free shuttles to the ship. Our last stay was at the Residence Inn and we loved it. A lot of people like the Radisson, but for the money we preferred the two bedroom suite with a hot breakfast included. You will probably get more information if you post on the cruise board.

We've always found it cheaper to rent a car to drive to Port Canaveral. It is a very straightforward trip to the port from MCO. Avis and Budget both have MCO rentals and have a shuttle to the port from their offices in Cocoa Beach. We've never stayed at the port, but I've heard good reviews of the Radison at the port, which does offer a shuttle. The disney cruise line forum has a ton of information on it about cars, hotels etc.

A lot of families hire a car service to take them over and return them to MCO. The convenience of car service cost a little more but you don't have to go through the car rental agency to get the car, turn it in at the port, go back and pick it up and can count on being at MCO about an hour after you depart the ship.

Car service has a number of advantages over bus or car rental alternatives.

The Raddison is popular, but they have a Residence and a Country Inn that is new over there and very close to the ship.
