Hi! I'm thinking of purchasing Aulani dvc. I see contracts last quite a while.. like 2065 on one I saw. Do points needed per room/villa change? Like, will I eventually need to increase how many points I own annually to stay in the same unit (ex: 1 bdrm villa)?
And if we decide to not do Aulani one year, can we use the points (ex: 300 pts) to book a stay at WDW dvc resort?
Thanks

All AUL contracts expire in 2062.

DVC can realign the points charts and members have experienced changes that cause certain calendar periods to require more points. But in order to do that, the number of points need to go down at another time. The total # of points needed to sell out every villa every night of the year cannot change when these realignments are done.

AUL points can be used to book WDW resorts 7 months in advance. Members can book their home resort at 11 months and non-home resorts at 7 months. Certain resorts can be more difficult to book than other.

Yes 2062 is what I saw, thank you.

Good to know! Which resorts are difficult to book?

Any near park resorts will be more difficult to book than the big three of SSR, OKW, and AKW.

You can not book RIV with resale points at all. If you are going anywhere from mid September to mid January, 7 month bookings can be tough especially the first two weeks of December.

Studios go the fastest and 1 bedrooms stick around longer. Less expensive views can be gobbled up quick, even for owners of those resorts.

For example, BWV SV and BLT SV studios are hard to get. So are AKV value and CL rooms.

And if you aren’t planning to hold onto Aulani points for the long haul, you’ll have to jump through some state tax hoops when/if you sell. You have to pay taxes on the amount the point value has risen… but they initially tax you for the full sales price… then you get to pay someone to help you get the rest of your money back when you prove how much you initially paid for your points.

Don’t count on getting any reservations for the Grand Californian at the 7 month mark - limited number of units and the only Disneyland DVC property = very hard to get rooms. It may get better when the new Disneyland Towers are built, but you’ll need to buy direct to be able to book there, and there will still be capacity issues for DLR visits.

The other resorts can be difficult, but it also depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re flexible on room type, you can almost always (peak periods excepted) get a room at 7 months.
