Hubby and I are hitting the Poly for a first time stay in May - our "Incentive trip" for buying DVC last March... I requested a Castle view... but what's a good building to request? (Are some better than others?) Looking for anyone who has anything to contribute for a good trip! :) Appreciate any hints or tips!

To get a view of the castle you will have to pay for a lagoon view. There are a few garden views that have a peek at the castle of lagoon but you would be taking your chances with a garden view and it would not be a direct view of it.

See my link below for info.

Aloha

Steve

You would be very happy with Tahiti. The views from LV in that building are great. As Tikiman said--you will need to pay for a LV to have a good view of MK. Tahiti and Hawaii (concierge) have the best castle views.

We stayed at the Polynesian for the first time in December. We loved our room in Tahiti. It was very close to the beach, and we could hear the music from Spectromagic at night. We opted for the garden view, and used the money we saved on some nice dinners. We sat on the beach at night, in a lounge chair, and watched the fireworks. Then the water parade. It was very quiet and peaceful, and close enough to walk to the transportation and ticket center. We loved it so much we are going back in July! It will be very romantic for your anniversary. Have a great time!

The Poly is our favorite and this coming trip will be our 5th time there. We've done alot of the options from lagoon view concierge to plain old garden view.

We've done lagoon view and it's great - but we're not this trip. We're doing concierge garden view. Thing is - we never look out the window! Watching the fireworks from the beach is just so wonderful, and the view of the MK is just so great all over the resort.

I don't want to go so far as to say a room with castle view is overrated, but I just wanted you to know it's not necessary to enjoy the view.

Have a great time!!!:bounce: We LOOOVE the Poly!

Definitely request the Tahiti. We stayed there in 2001 with Lagoon view, 2nd floor with balcony. We had an unobstructed view of the castle, the kids loved it. We were able to sit in our rooms and watch the fireworks if we chose. The only drawback to the Tahiti is it is far from the Main Ceremonial House where the monorail is, however, we used the ferry and water taxi alot! Enjoy, once you visit the Poly you won't ever want to go anywhere else.

Hi
We just had our first trip to the poly in feb...we paid for a gv room and when we checked in i requested tokelau because i thought it would be convenient and i heard that you may be able to have a garden view along with a side view of the castle and lagoon...when i told the cm he said its a very busy building and i have the perfect room for you...the bell hop took us to a first floor room in fiji directly facing the marina and the volcano pool...room 1314...the view was gorgeous and the location was very convenient ...that room made our trip very special...good luck!:D

jillz....how did you like the first floor? I requested Niue first floor....Figi also sounds great... how far of a walk was the volcano pool and the lobby??thanks,,,amy

Hi
First floor was great and very private due to landscaping ..the view of the sailboats etc...was beautiful and the marina was lit up at night ...so pretty...you also had a view of the back of the volcano pool and the gch was one building over...if i ever stay again at poly i would request that same location
Have a great trip:p

What about Samoa, anyone? It looks great for where I want to stay for my 7 year old to live in the volcano pool, but I read tikiman's web site (GREAT SITE for Poly) and it seems Smokey to him. Anyone Else? I'm sensitive to smoke...

Thanks,

Trip:cool: :bounce:

A smoking building--so if you're sensitive, it would be a no go for you! It is a really nice location!

Tess,

Maybe Niue then? I've about decided that the view out of the room isn't as important as access to the pool and stuff. We're going GV (my first abbreviation! Now I'm excited!!) and the way everyone talks about going to the beach for the fireworks, that'll be the way to go...
Any suggestions for Niue?

Thanks so much!

Trip:bounce:

Then that building would afford nice access to the main walkways to the pools, GCH, and beach. It's also good for dodging those raindrops when the downpours happen!

Frankly, I wouldn't complain about most buildings at Polynesian unless I was paying those big bucks for LV and didn't get to see the Castle! :D

We LOVED Tokelau and the Poly. Make sure you stroll around the grounds in the evening when the torches are lit. Lots of birds, ducks and bunnies around. The press pot of Kona Coffee in Kona Cafe is a MUST if you love good coffee. We had breakfast there every morning. One afternoon when we came back from the parks, a CM in the lobby was offering complimentary fresh-baked cookies. The bar next to 'Ohana has the best rum drinks I have had in a long time--great for a quiet drink in the afternoon. The Monorail access rules, and Transportation & Ticket Center is an easy walk to get the Monorail to Epcot.

Have a fabulous time.

Thank you thank you thank you everyone for the great suggestions. I hope that we will be able to get Tahiti as most of you suggested would be best. Samoa sounds nice, but alas, I'm sensitive to smoke as well...

I'm definitely looking forward to experiencing Ohanas and the Kona Cafe as well!! :)

I also stayed in Fiji 1316. The patio is great with hedges in front so anyone walking by does not even see you. It had a lovely view of the marina and back of the volcano pool. Every night we sat on the patio and had a glass of wine. In the morning we had our coffee out there. I found it to be quite quiet and the walk to the gch and pool was easy.
I have requested that building for our next trip without hesitation!

Spent many magical mornings and evenings out on the balcony enjoying the castle view. The building we were in was then named Moorea but that was over six years ago and I think it's been renamed. It's well worth the money to reserve a lagoon view. To walk in the room, and see the castle first thing was a highlight everytime we came back "home." Have a great trip.

Colleen!

We were in 1314 in Feb...wasn't that a great spot!!!Definately will go back!:D

Hi jillz

It was such a surprise to have such a great room. I love the water, but couldn't justify the cost of the lagoon view since we wanted to spend the money on suppers.
To be able to see the lagoon, marina and pool was great. When we were at the pool it was so easy to slip back to the room for whatever you needed.
Those hedges made it so private on the patio!
I can't wait to go back!

Wanted to bump this up to the top - as we're leaving for our trip to the Poly in 8 hours!!! I'm DYING here... I'll post when I get back about where we ended up. I requested Fiji or Tuvalu - as I read which buildings were also most recently refurbished, so it sounded good - esp. with the location. More important than anything else was non-smoking with a balcony. We'll see!!! :)

Thanks to everyone again for suggestions. ;) I'm drooling over Tonga Toast, and I haven't even HAD it yet! :)
