DH has won a customer service award from his job and the prize is a long weekend (Thursday thru Sunday) at the Yacht Club! I have always wanted to stay here and of course we could never afford the nightly rates, so this is really exciting for us. Also, because my DS is in school and the trip is only for two people we are going alone. (Which is actually a little scary for me because me and DH have never left the kids overnight before, but they will be well taken care of by trusted family :) ).

We haven't spent a night without children together in almost 7 years, which is really crazy when you think about it, it's gonna be like a 2nd honeymoon...but I digress.

Anyways, we go to Disney a lot (just took our family trip last August) so we know the parks well, but are completely unfamiliar with the area around this resort. So, tell me all about it! Where do you like to eat? What kind of fun is there to be had in the Epcot resort area? Thanks for your opinions, and for listening to my happy news.

My favorite thing to do is to watch illuminations in Epcot, then to walk out the back 'door' (international gateway) to my room at the Yacht club. Likewise, you are very close to all of the great restaurants in the countries of Epcot.
Cape May buffet, next door at the Beach Club, has a great sea food buffet, as well.
Beaches and Cream ice cream is a must do, right by SAB.
Signature restaurants Yachtsman steakhouse in the Yacht Club and Flying Fish - a quick boat ride over to the boardwalk are both good and very convenient.
You'll have a great time, I love the atmosphere, with the lake, the lights at night reflecting on the water, the boats, and especially the ease of getting into both Epcot and DHS.

Congrats to you and your husband! That is so exciting for tou too! YC is in such a great reosrt area. You are able to walk or take a boat to EPCOT and HS. You can also walk right over to the BW for great entertainment day and night. BC and YC have great food choices. Checkthe website for more info on these bc there is just too much to say.

Have a great time on your trip - you are sooo lucky!!!

Congrats to your DH on winning such a great prize :). We've never stayed at the YC, but we have stayed at the BC and the Epcot resort area is great. You can't beat being within walking distance to Epcot and DHS and there are some great TS restaurants right there. We love Cape May at the BC and Yachtsman Steakhouse at the YC. Plus the boardwalk has nightly entertainment that is fun to watch while walking around the boardwalk. Have a great trip and enjoy the YC :goodvibes.

Wow we have so much in common! DH and I are also going to YC for 3 nights without the kids! (We have actually never gone away together in 10 years, and never had a honeymoon.). We also just took our family to Disney in August! We are also nervous to leave the kids, but truly feel we need some time to ourselves!!

YC is awesome. You can head to the boardwalk at night for some entertainment, then visit Jellyrolls, a dueling piano bar for late night drinks and entertainment. Also there is the ESPN club.
You have the convenience of leaving fantasmic or illuminations without dealing with busses.
We had a great meal at YS last trip, and we love love love Cape May breakfast.
The pool is amazing, you won't want to leave the sand bottom...it is so relaxing, there are also hot tubs.
You also have FF on the Boardwalk as others have mentioned.
At Epcot, you have so many dining choices a 5 minute walk from your room.
Will you be on a dining plan? If not, you'll probably want to splurge on a dinner at the Swan/Dolphin...I personally have not eaten there, but Shulas and bluezoo get great reviews from other DISers.

We just stayed at YC Aug 2012 and enjoyed our stay.

If you can swing a water view, one of the highlights of our trip was to watch Illuminations (higher fireworks) from our patio.

Our room was quite a hike to the lobby and SAB. If your room location is important to you, ask for a room close to the lobby.

YC was very convenient to the IG of EPCOT and to DS, but the bus service was very, very bad for us. We ended up taking a Taxi to both water parks and DTD and the Main entrance of EPCOT for a tour (IG did not open up early enough). Buses share with all or most of the EPCOT resorts. During our stay, we waited a long time for the bus to arrive (20-30min), then make it's way to all the EPCOT resorts(another 20-25min) and then on to our destination(20-25min).

Cape May Buffet was our favorite meal of the trip. There was endless crab legs and lots of other good food served hot and timely.

Take time to explore YC, BC and the Boardwalk. We enjoyed waling the BW at night.

Congrats on the award! DW and I stayed at the YC a few years back using my military discount. It was during September before the free dining promotion came about, so it was a very slow time at the resort. They gave us a free upgrade to a water view room. We could sit out on our balcony and view Crescent Lake and the upper fireworks from Illuminations. It was awesome!

Congrats! The YC is a great resort in a great location. As for dining, when we stay YC/BC we tend to book our dinners at Epcot then enjoy walking around the lagoon and watching Illuminations. It's an easy walk to Epcot and it's an easy walk back through the "back door". Flying Fish at the BWI is also a great place for dinner.
