First stay at the Grand Californian

We loved that hotel so much we bought DVC points as soon as they were available and then added on more later.
Almost the same for us. Our GCH room looked out over the pool and the (at that time) brand new VGC wing. We bought during that trip, and added on following our first VGC visit.
...If you have time take the architectural tour.......very interesting. DH goes on it every stay.
I took the Art of Craft hotel tour again (previous tour was 5 years ago) last week, and learned many more interesting details. The tour was given by Dave Lay, who wrote the "script" for the tour used by other guides. He shared that there is over 2 hours of content available, so each guide is able to customize the tour based on guest interest (the tour is scheduled for an hour).

LOL....and then if DH is on the tour, he adds about another hour of info. He loves Art and Craft style and is somewhat of an expert. He has even donated booklets to the hotel.....they might be in a display case ;)

We bought DVC first at OKW just so we would be sure to get in first when VCG went on sale. Now have 2 contracts at each

P10001092.jpg We love GCH...only stay there when we go. It's extremely family friendly!

If you ask nicely for an upgrade you could get this view as well which is always great!!

I was extremely fortunate and happy to get to stay at the GCH on my last trip but, quite frankly, it was disappointing. The rooms were extremely average so don't expect to find the room to be of higher quality than the DLH. The lobby, which everyone raves about, was noisy and crowded almost every time I passed through. The pool was underwhelming.

I say all this and I'm making it sound horrible, but it definitely was not. Just wasn't as ridiculously awesome as I was picturing. The location CAN'T be beat. The fact that I could leave my room 5 minutes before DCA closed and still get one last GRR ride in was awesome.

Next trip will be at the DLH though, and I'm very excited about that. Stayed there all throughout my childhood and have great memories. We'll see how it is now that I have kids but I expect I will actually prefer it to the GCH.
