First stay at AKV

Yesterday was our arrival day. It was a nightmare. We were supposed to leave Mpls at 7:00 am and get to Orlando at 11:15am. Well.........we ended up arriving at 9:30PM. Delta canceled our flight after 4 hours of making us wait for them to "fix" a part and then informed everyone that all other direct flights were full and we were pretty much SOL. So we managed to snag a 1:30pm flight from Mpls to DTW and then a 5:55PM flight from DTW to MCO. It was pure hell and I felt so horrible for people who had kids to try and take care of during this whole thing. My DH and I were traveling without our kids and I cannot imagine having to deal with all that was going on AND kids too.

Anyway, I must admit that I have never really wanted to stay at AKV because I thought it would be boring and it was to far away. BUT, when I woke up this morning and stepped out on the balcony, I was in pure HEAVEN. This place is absolutely amazing and is now my favorite place to stay. I cannot believe that we get an entire week here. I could just sit on my balcony and watch the animals all day.

Hi fellow Minnesotan...I'm sorry you had a bad start to your vacation, but I think AKV will make up for it. No kids for a week and staying at a very relaxing resort makes for a wonderful vacation. Have fun!!

It had nothing to do with winds. We left the gate and sat on the tarmack for an hour. Then they told us there was a problem with the air conditioning and we had to order a part and have it installed and that would take 1 1/2 hours. After 2 hours they told us that the part had arrived and they were going to install it and that we would be re-boarding soon. At noon they told everyone to go back on the plane and get their stuff off, they were canceling the flight.

AKV is my favorite place to be! Are you in Jambo or Kidani? You are right - staying at the resort on your balcony all day is a great option. The pools at both Jambo and Kidani are good too. Have fun!!

We are at Jambo, and it is amazing. We are having such a great time here and cannot imagine staying anywhere else from now on. This coming from someone who never wanted to even stay here.

If there is anything specific you would like to know, please let me know. I am more than happy to answer any questions. Or at least try to.

Nope, no free ticket. Just a "sorry" and "all the other direct flights are booked". We did not stick around long enough to find out if they gave out anything else.

Not a problem! I will take some and post them.

I have some too of the lobby from the other night. DH and I came from EMH and it was about 2 in the morning when we came through the lobby. There was not a soul in the place so got a nice shot of it completely empty. You don't get to see that too often around here.

As of right now, they have poolside movies on Mon, Wed and Fri at the Kidani pool. And yep, they still have African Folktales around the Arusha fire pit every night at 7:15PM.

Hopefully that is the same in October!

We got a sheet when we checked in that has all Jambo and Kidani activites. There are a ton of thm. My DH is going on a culinary tour tomorrow and is really looking forward to it.
