Hello all! newbie here reporting for duty! The days are slowly crawling by and I'll try and keep it short and sweet. I booked this trip months ago for the lady and I. A few weeks ago we decided that things weren't working out between us. I was in the process of canceling the reservation when I decided to google "do singles have fun in Disney" haha. Found this lovely site and the rest is history. I am booked at the Yacht Club, club level. Looking for anyone and everyone who will be in the area and wants to have some fun.

ME: 30 Male. Temporarily stationed in NJ(Army), Home is MA. Avatar is me. This will be my sixth trip. I intend on hitting the parks, hanging poolside, enjoying many tasty umbrella drinks, and generally having as much fun as possible. Would love some company. Age, sex, marital status, whatever just wanna meet people and have a great time. I will be in Orlando on the 10th if anyone wants to meetup that Saturday night ( was almost $500 cheaper to fly out Sat afternoon vs Sun morning). I purchased my tickets through the on-base ticket agency and I am now the proud owner of two 6day with park hopper passes and only need one for myself so if your local and need a ticket let me know, it's not refundable and expires with all the other military tickets in Sep so no big deal. Thanks!

Oh bummer...we'll be there may 17th-21. You'll have so much fun alone! I've never done it, but I heard it was amazing. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want! I'm actually a little jealous :)

Hey and welcome!!! OMG, you are in for such a treat!!! I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you and the lady, however I just told someone on another thread that sometimes the best way to get over someone is to hang out for a few days with the mouse... :) I'm gonna miss you by 9 days, I am there for my 2nd solo excurision April 28 - May 4th and will be meeting up with some of my DISpeeps along the way... Solo trippin' to Disney is a very eye-opening experience. Going with loved ones and children are great, but I tell you... to be able to really soak in the pleasures, do a couple of tours, go hang out in DTD at night, or have a few drinks at the karaoke bar... nothing like it!!

Thanks! I'm sure it will be a ton of fun just seems so intimidating on the outside looking in. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Thanks! If you decide to stay longer, we'll be around. I'm 28 and I'm traveling with my sister, cousin and her boyfriend who are 23. Don't forget about hitting up flower and garden and Star Wars weekends. That's why we're going :) Let me know if you need any help planning. I'm an annual pass holder, so I go to Disney way too many times during the year and I live in NY so I think we share the same airport!

Thanks! No hard feelings, I know from experience how hard LDR relationships with people especially military people, can be. The divorce rate is really high and with good reason. Say you do four years in the military, over those four years your gone for 2.5 ish. When your SO spouse whatever you want to call them already has to do everything by his/her self its easy to say I mine as well be single because I am.

That being said I bet the mouse will be the perfect remedy for the post breakup funk! I can't wait! I'm kinda torn on whether I should downgrade my reservation, I don't need to financially but it seems weird to spend that much just on myself it was kinda an us "thing".
Plus I feel like I am more likely to meet people around my age and interests at something like pop or all stars. What do you think? I mean age is of no importance whatsoever really just feels more easily approachable. Then again from my understanding Yacht/beach has one of the better pools and I plan to spend alot of time poolside with a brightly colored drink in one hand and my kindle in another haha. Choice overload! Hope you have a great trip!

If only it were that easy I would stay year round haha! Thanks for reminding me I missed Star wars last year not this time!! Also reminded me I'm on the meal plan and all reservations were mad with the thought of "romantic" type dinners and I'm not sure how to romance myself hahaha. May have to go QS route or cancel some. Unfortunately I booked the plane tickets with everything else planning on a vacation for two, and since the EX-SO is in MA I am flying out of Boston so I get to drive 5 hours or so to the airport there and back lol. I have yet to spend much time in NY besides for a day trip to visit West Point, but now that the weather has FINALLY turned decent can't wait to explore.

That's crazy.. you can't switch your flight or was there nothing available from NJ?? OMG, please don't torture yourself more lol.

REgarding your stay location, actually you are probably in a great location to meet folks your age. My last solo trip, I stayed at AKV, but spent most of my time at Boardwalk and Beach Club area because that's where all the cool kids were! I think if you move to Pop or one of those you will be overrun with many of the geriatric-ally challenged. :) :rotfl2:

Yes yes you have to hit Star Wars Weekends...Im going to miss it this year. As far as dinners are concerned...did you make any ADRs already?? Im sure you can switch some stuff if you want...but, no one knows what we like in romance better than us, right?? Ive had many a romantic dinner alone at Disney and enjoyed every bit of it.

Ahh I tried to pm you but I don't think I did it right. I was trying to tell you to change those flight reservations! It's not hard to do and I can walk you through it. Also, I know some people who live over there and I can gladly introduce you.

Hey Thanks I got It just don't have enough post's to be able to PM back haha. I called both expedia and delta and they both told me there would be a $200 change fee. I'm just under 5 grand as it is on this trip which was supposed to be for two and I really don't want to invest anymore until I at least get there haha. I even tried to finagle a deal with them where they would could cancel my ex's ticket and use that to pay the change fee. Maybe I'm missing something but if they cancelled the other ticket they could re sell it seems like a good business strategy to me lol. Oh well just cancelled her part of the meal plan refund of 300 bucks more fun money!! Thanks for the tip Though would have been awesome if it worked! The lady from the Disney company felt so bad for me she said she put in a note for me to get a really nice view room haha. see what happens!! And yeah please would love to meet some local people! Thanks for all the help your awesome!

Did you book with Delta direct or did you go through expedia for the entire thing? Disney is really good about those kind of things... they'll let you cancel/reschedule pretty much anything. Did you buy your tickets on base or through disney's website? Depending on where, you might be able to get a refund

Booked flight tickets through Expedia, Booked park passes through whats called MWR ticketing( through the base) and I booked resort dining straight through the Disney travel company. Both Expedia and Delta told me I would have to pay a $200 change fee and a $50 dollar re-issue fee. I even tried to play the military sympathy card (don't judge me haha) nobody wanted to hear it. Disney refunded $300ish of the dining plan today. Told me any ticket refunds have to go through the base and I can almost guarantee that they are going to tell me sorry nothing we can do.

No big deal in the end I'm going to have a blast regardless. Would love to find someone who needed a pass for the same days. I could care less about the money. Good karma and all that jazz. Got a pm already for someone asking about it but I still don't have enough post's to answer haha. The way the base explained to me I have to be there when they are all first swiped to show my military ID and after that its all good in the hood. This is my first experience with military ticketing so we'll see how it goes, but they gave me the actual Disney passes I've gotten before.

Almost Exact, if you look further down the list of threads, SpiceyCat has a thread looking for people who will be at WDW May 11-17. It looks like some people may be meeting up that week. Perhaps you could join them. :)

PS: Thank you for protecting our country.

Missed that one thanks!! And thank you!!

I'm going to research this a little bit and see if I can help you. To be honest, the best thing that always works is asking to speak to a manager, be really polite and keep calling until you can get someone to waive the cancellation fee. Sometimes you'll luck out and get someone willing to help because they're in a good mood. It never hurts to try. I'll pm you my info

Awesome thanks reply Incoming

Hello again - I'm the one who PM'd you, and I didn't even realize you couldn't reply because of fewer posts! Glad to see you are getting so much help on the DIS (knew you would) and hope you get all of your cancelling/changes worked out for you! Like I said in my PM, you will enjoy being solo (at least I do), but if you can join a DIS meet, that would be fun for you as well, especially since your original post said you were looking for people to hang out with. Kindle by the pool, that's me, as long as I can handle the sun and heat, then I find the deck/patio off my room for some shade and continued reading. Have fun - Epcot has the Flower and Garden Festival, and although I know you're a guy, it's really beautiful to wander and enjoy all the displays, and being at the Yacht Club it's easy for you to pop in and out of Epcot whenever the mood takes you! :goodvibes

Hope you decide to go. I am going to be there May 15-20 and thought it would be my first solo trip but a friend is going with her husband and daughters and is going to go down a few days early to hang out with me. She is going to let me use one of her military tickets. It is a great deal. Looking forward to BCV. It is really my favorite area. I think you will love the Yacht Club. I may look and see if there is a dis meet though just to get to meet some more people.

Thanks and sorry I wrote this big long reply to you right away and then it wouldn't let me send it haha! Yeah I couldn't believe it either I have been on many forums and most folks tend to ignore the new people because they ask the same questions others have asked. I was just hoping someone would reply and the amount of suggestions and help people have offered is amazing. Haven't had much interest in the pass so if you still need one when I get in town your welcome to it. You mentioned keeping it low budget so just throw me whatever you think is fair and won't spoil your trip. The base said I have to be there at first swipe to show my military ID to verify the discount and after that your free to do whatever you want with it. I can't wait yacht club sounds good tried for poly and beach first but the way the military discount works is they only give so many in each resort at one time so Yacht it is! If your read this and see the ginger guy with a umbrella drink in one hand and a kindle in the other poolside that will be me people haha!!
