:)Hello Fellow Disers, I wanted to see if any of you could give me a little advice :goodvibes We just booked our very first family ski trip to Winter Park, Colorado in January. I have purchased nice parkas for my kiddos, but want to know how I should dress them for the slopes and snow. We will also be purchasing snow pants or bibs to go with the parkas and also plan on getting thermal underwear for them as well. How much layering should I do?? I don't want them to get to hot but I am worried about them being too cold. We are from Louisiana so we are obviously not used to the cold and snow :rotfl:

If you have been with your kiddos, can you let me know what you did and what worked for you? I am just trying to make sure I pack enough and have a great trip:goodvibes

TIA!!

All I know is cotton is bad, do not layer with cotton or have your kids wear cotton socks.
Personally I love silk underware/long johns, non bulkey and non water absorbing.
Wool socks (thin) are good too.

My kids, and DH and I wear...

1. Long underwear- I like REI, Columbia, The North Face, (though there are a lot of good brands)

2. Usually a LS tee, (this get left off if not brutal out)

3. A fleece pull over, (like a sweater, but faster drying, and generally warmer)

4. Two pair of ski socks, (well DH never does :)), unless it is just warm :)

5. Jacket/snow pants

6. mittens or gloves, neck gaitor type thing, hat or earbannd

7. Sunglasses or goggles

8. Helmets

EVeryone but the baby skiis, and my three year old skied warmly, (2 1/2 last winter)!

Have fun!

tloveswdw has a great list. Just a few more notes.

It looks like your girls are 5 so they may still be at the age where when they say they have to to the bathroom, they really needed to go 5 minutes ago. If that's the case, don't get them bibs as their ski bottoms because you've got to get the coat off first, then then unzip the bibs, then get them pulled off the shoulders and down. Been there, done that with DS and it's a pain.

Stay away from cotton for the layers next to the skin. A good brand for socks is Smartwool.

See if you can borrow from friends/family. All of this stuff gets expensive, especially if you're only going to ski once a year and then the kids grow.

It's nice to have 2 pairs of gloves/mittens for everyone, especially kids, so if they get wet inside, you have another pair.

You can get hand/toe warmers to stick inside gloves/boots. Just not right next to the skin.

Finally, I don't know how long your trip is, but coming from La., you'll need to take it easy the first couple of days while adjusting to the altitude. Don't over do it. Tha last thing you want is altitude sickness.

Don't forget the sunblock.
I know it sounds weird, but the sun reflects up into their
gentle little faces.

Keeping feet dry and hands warm were the key
to happy sleding for this wimpy cali girl.
DD would be happy in a blizzard, I'm the wimp :rotfl2:

Enjoy :santa:
