First sailing on the Wish

HOW do you hit your head on a doorknob getting off a toilet? Is the toilet right next to the door into it? Is it still split baths?
Yes, split bathroom(s). I would hit my head while sitting down and bending forward to adjust some feminine necessities. The toilet is that close to the door. That bathroom is smaller than on all of the other ships.

When I was alone in the stateroom, I started leaving the bathroom door open to avoid the problem.

The lack of merchandise shops is befuddling to me. Is anyone really clamoring for jewelry and handbag shops on a cruise ship? I understand that they get to charge high rents for these spaces but especially with the Wish doing only short cruises you would think that regular merch sales would make up for it.

Those high-end shops were empty every time we walked by. By contrast, Mickey's Mainsail was absolutely packed when we were there.

Thanks for explaining the Tiny Toilet issue. Wow, sounds claustrophobic AND dangerous. And this was Concierge?

I don’t do a lot of laps on Deck 4 but I just love the airy feel of it. Also feels very “old school”.

Thanks for your Pros and Cons list!

Agree that they missed the merchandising mark on the Wish. Those high end shops are really over done. Also, some of the merchandise you'll find in them is second hand.

The promenade is still there on decks 4, 5, and 6. It has some stairs now and it doesn't go around the back, which is why you can't run laps on it. But if you just want to walk, stand, or sit outside on the promenade, then it's still there!

Sadly, there are those who have issues with stairs. Not really a relaxing walk around the ship, if you, basically, can only go back an forth on one side of the ship.

This will be our first cruise ever so I wonder what we might not like and what we will love since we have nothing to compare it to
You should love everything! Unless it is something that truly bothers you - so that you would say, why did they build it this way?

Lots of first time cruisers have glowing reviews of Wish. Approach it with that mindset. Scrutiny can come in subsequent cruises.

The things others see are not usually incorrect, either. We have been spoiled with the first four ships. Perfect? no. But for many of us, they are our familiar home on the sea.

But also don’t be surprised if there are aspects you don’t like. Sometimes, it’s just cruising in general. Or a bad day.

Unfortunately, the comment card is going to be on the phone for all ships. We were on the floor (8) that tested it out on the Dream back in April, didn't do it then and wrote an email. We just got off the Fantasy where it was the only option for all rooms. We made it known we would not do it on the phone and were given paper to write and recognize CMS, which we did. We had met the hotel director (manager? I forget the title) earlier in the cruise and she saw us dropping it off as we were leaving so we nicely mentioned it to her too.

While the phone may be easier for some it is not for all. For years it has been drilled into our heads how important this survey is, and now they made it harder to do IMO. :sad2:
Great my fat little fingers hit three buttons at the same time consistently. Turning my spelling abilities from “is that what she meant to type? to is this even English?”
I think Disney needs to quit making things easier for me. It’s getting too hard!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I hadn't been on a cruise in about 10 years and was worried about all the negative things I read online.

That being said, we never made it to the adults section and we're not runners. I had little people with me, so we were mostly on the pool deck or character meet and greets.

I loved the stateroom decor (we had a Princess and the Frog themed room), the only dining miss for me was Marvel but that's because I didn't choose something that was recommended by the server.

The lack of a midship elevator bank didn't faze me as we mainly used the stairs.

My 7 year old lived in the kids club, like I had to peel her out to make sure she ate food.

My husband prefers the spa on the Dream class ships but whatever nitpicky things we had about the Wish weren't enough to dissuade us from booking the Treasure.

We are easy to please so I am sure we will be fine.

We are not going until next August but should we book anything now such as the excursions or shows?

The excursions you can't book until your activities booking date opens (I think it's 75 days for first time cruisers). You don't book any of the shows (I've never been so I couldn't tell you anything about how early to get there for seats).

They have a nice setup that everyone should be able to see the shows. Half the guests eat dinner while the others see the evening show. Designed so everyone can have the opportunity for a similar cruise.

Even in dining. You eat at an assigned restaurant, trying all three of the venues, each with its own menu. One night will have a Pirate Menu - and all venues offer the same food.

The guest capacity on the Wish is the same as on the Dream and Fantasy, but the ship is a bit larger. So, I don't understand this complaint.
The wish in slightly longer but the dream and the fantasy are 10 ft wider than the wish and I think that makes them feel larger. The interior spaces on the wish felt smaller and like @Cheburashka said in her initial review have very few portholes to see outside. It definitely didn’t feel like I was on a ship our sailing had such smooth waters there was very little movement felt. It also to me felt more squished where all the guest areas were between the two banks of elevators, vs on the dream and the fantasy where some of the adult spaces are even past the aft stairs. The wish was truly beautiful in all the decor and details. My teens complained there were less nooks for them to hang out in. They love the porthole walkway to animators on the dream class and the wish lacked that.

The stats on The DCL Blog don't show the Wish being 10 feet narrower.

Dream: Length = 1,115 ft; Beam = 121 ft
Wish: Length = 1,121 ft; Beam = 128 ft

Where did you get your numbers from? Maybe The DCL Blog has the wrong values?

I got it off Wikipedia so it could totally be wrong

We were just off the magic earlier this month and phone was the only option. Honestly, it was just as easy for me (maybe easier? Seemed slightly shorter but might be because I was killing time while doing other stuff) and I have accidentally walked off the ship with the paper copy at least twice.
