First Ride for a newbie to WDW?

In the spirit of reality television (is there really any spirit to that garbage?) I'm going to let the DIS'ers speak.

My girlfriend and I (twenty-somethings) are going to WDW in late Sept. This will be her first time ever to visit any Disney park. We arrive at the resort mid-afternoon and are going to head straight to the MK. We're going to try and get a land or maybe 2 out of the way that afternoon before FITS that evening.

What do you suggest that I take her on for her FIRST ever Disney ride? My initial thought was Space Mountain, but I'm slowly leaning towards Splash Mountain because it is themed so well.

Vote now and I will act upon the majority rule. BHTM is closed during our visit, so I left it out.

It was a tough choice, especially from all of the wonderful options.
I had a harder time deciding between Haunted Mansion and Pirates. But H.M. has my vote.
Not that I don't love every ride listed!!! But there's just something about the HM that makes me feel the Disney magic!

However if it's a major thrill rush....SPLASH MOUNTAIN!

Oh, well. If TTA ain't an option, I voted Haunted Mansion - this is not only a Disney classic, but will be a great memory for years to come. I almost agreed with Splash, but you can get pretty wet on that thing, and I'm not sure if your girlfriend will appreciate hairdo/makeup damage, sopping clothes, squishy shoes and a wet, um, derriere for the rest of the night - that's NOT a good first memory!

Splash, as said, the theming is just so neat. You do Splash, and she is hooked, LOL. Enjoy!!!!!

I would say pirates because it is also themed very well and has all those animatronics. I also picked it because its a classic!

DUMBO,DUMBO,DUMBO... It is the center of the Magic Kingdom. Everything revolves around it. You have great views of all of Fantasyland. And that is what the Magic Kingdom is all about.

Defintely do one of the classics! I voted Peter Pan because it's just so magical. If not, then definitely do Pirates, I remember my first ride on that and it was awesome!

Although Splash Mountain is my favorite ride, I voted Haunted Mansion. All the rides would be good first rides, but I would save Splash Mountain as something to build up to.

My absolute favorite is Splash, but I voted Pirates because it too is wonderfully themed and you probably won't have to wait in line too long. All of the others would possibly have a long wait or you would need to get FP, so for some immediate ride time, Pirates is the best bet.

If I had to choose it would have to be Splash Mountain,the colours inside are outstanding,although if you do this first you'll have "the song of the south" in your head all day!
We always start clockwise from mainstreet doing everything as it comes-I know others head straight for the FP rides but the day is long enough without rushing everywhere!
Don't forget as Newbies you must go to Toon town to get your photo taken with Mickey!!When we first went you could actually meet him in the park but I think he's confined to his house now !!

I vote for Splash Mountain (as long as your girlfriend likes rides like this) -- It is a perfect example of Disney's theming, you get some great views of the park when you are on the outside parts of the ride, and it is so much fun!! Plus, you get the picture taken, which would be a great way to celebrate your friend's first ever Disney experience
