I am going to WDW next June with DH, myself, my parents and 2 younger brothers (18 and 12). DH and I have been to WDW, the rest have not. I want a great 1st night meal, something to wow them, but I don't want to "waste" a park ticket on a half day. What do you suggest? (BTW, none of us are really fancy people).

Just got back, we loved OHana our first night. It was our first dinner there and we really enjoyed it. Afterwards we rode the monorails for an hour or so...it was great!

We like the following restaurants:

At the Boardwalk you can try Spoodles, Flying Fish (fancier and excellent seafood) or ESPN Grill.

Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge.

Portebello Yacht Club, Rainforest Cafe, Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney.

We have enjoyed many great meals at these places. We usually always hit Spoodles our first night at WDW - one of our traditions.

If you do go to Boardwalk, walk over to the Beach Club and get some ice cream for dessert at Beaches & Cream - out of this world!!

Have a great trip!!

We always eat at the Hoop Dee Doo review our first night at Disney. It really gets you in the Disney spirit without going into any of the parks.

Another suggestion in addition to the ones above is Boma at the Animal Kingdom lodge. Great meal, and afterwards, you can walk around the hotel and check out the animals on the Savannahs.

I think that you don't HAVE to dinner with the characters being that your brothers are 12 and 18. (I have sons that are nearly the same ages.) Last month on our trip we opened up with Kona Cafe and lots of sticky wings and some totally outstanding desserts. My boys said they want all of our trips to start that way from now on! You could even head out on the Poly beach afterward and see the 9:00 electrical water pageant.

Other places I would consider: 'Ohana or Cali Grill --especially if you knew you could time dinner during fireworks. (Those two cost a little more money.) Concourse Steak House would be fun for boys that age because of the monorail zipping through and they could order burgers.

We have also enjoyed our "first night" at Beaches N Cream for burgers, onion rings and shakes followed by a surrey bike ride on the Boardwalk or a game of mini golf.

Have fun planning!

Definitely suugest either 'Ohana or California Grill. Both are great. California Grill offers an amazing view of the fireworks. 'Ohana can't be beat for food and lots of it.

I second the above two votes. California Grill is a wonderful place and I would always suggest this place for a great meal. It is a little more expensive and a very romantic place.
I really think 'Ohana's would be your best place. LOTS and LOTS of great food for the price. Believe me they keep it coming as long as you ask for it. Plus you can also see fireworks if you plan it right.

Ohanna's is our vote for our first night meal this trip. Our last night dinner will be Chief Mickey. Last year our last night dinner was HDDR. I would too suggest something outside of the park for that first night. We sometimes just like to do room service that first night if it has been a long day or a hard trip.

I have to vote for Ohanas or Chef Mickeys because before or after your meal you can take a ride on the monorail-don't forget the Epcot loop also.

shutters at CB has been getting great reveiws also. If you Chose to be DD try House of Blues or Rainforest.

Gotta throw in my vote for Ohanas. All you can eat meat on sticks. What more could you want? :)

I agree with several of the other posts....

Ohana is great food with a nice view.

Chef Mickey's will definately get your engines started for a great vacation.

Whispering Canyon is alot of fun and this will give you a chance to check outone of Disneys most awesome resorts.

Another idea is to go Downtown Disney....
maybe to Rainforest Cafe or Planet Hollywood.
