So our flights are supposed to arrive at mco around 2:30pm on dec 19th from there we will take the dme to AoA resort for check in. I had not planned a meal figuring we would hang around the resort...maybe go swimming if the weather is nice. My in laws are flying in as well but were not supposed to get in till after 8pm and they figured on just grabbing something quick before going to bed. BUT they managed to change their flight so now they get in at 3. Mil was asking if there was anything to do that day. So what would you do? Oh and fyi we are not on the dining plan for the first night. On the 20th we will move to a 2br villa at AKV kidani.

1. Still hang around the resort, take it easy have a qs meal at animators pallet? After all you have a whole week of dxdp meals planned and park fun ahead of you.

2. Head to a park of course! you’re at disney make the most of it...grab a qs meal and ride as much as you can before the park closes.

3. Head to downtown disney where you can go to earl of sandwich and try the turkey sandwich they only have this time of year and finish off that last min cmas shopping you meant to do before you left home.

4. Head to beaches and cream for some awesome burgers and because there is 8 of you in your party and you've been dyeing to order the kitchen sink and you might actually finish...errr put a dent in it?

Do you have to get up really early for your flight? If that's the case, then I'd go for #1. If not, then I would go for 3 or 4 :)

We will sort of have the same schedule when we fly in on Thanksgiving Day 2013, arriveing at MCO around 1:00 (based on this year's flights, subject to change). Since no one really cares about a traditional turkey dinner, we'll either head to Benihana at the Hilton DTD (if it's open and we LOVE Benihana) or head to DTD to eat at EOS or Wolfgang Puck Express and do a little shopping :)

I'd suggest that you don't select a restaurant to reserve that requires a credit card hold...otherwise, the sky's the limit.

Personally, I don't actually go to a park. But, I would do something that gets me close to a park. Kick the week off with a bus ride to MK. Ride a boat to Wilderness Lodge. Take the return boat to CR. Eat a meal at the Poly and watch the Fireworks from the beach if your still awake.

I would probably have a quick service at resorts and hang by pool. Or DTD and eat Wolfgang Puck Express and shop.... Yup shop is probably what I would do.

We won't have to get up too early...in fact we'll get to sleep in a little bit as the kids wont have to be up at 5:30am to catch the school bus.

as for anything with a cc reserve i hadn't planned on doing any character meals or signatures. I do have an early reservation for kona the next day so hoping not to stay out too late.

:scratchin 3 would be my preference, and 1 if we were feeling more tired than we anticipated. You don't want to start the 1st day of park touring tired because you did too much on arrival day:santa:
ENJOY whatever you decide!

Sort of. I'd take a bus to DHS and then hop on a boat to the Beach Club for dinner at Cape May, and then hit up Beaches and Cream for a sundae. Not sure I would try to have 8 people eat a full meal there. But if burgers and ice cream are your thing, then consider the same plan, only take the boat to the Dolphin and go to The Fountain. Food is every bit as good (if not better), and it is a more comfortable environment for eating.

Another option would be to walk from DHS to the Boardwalk and head to Flying Fish, Kouzzina or Big River Grille. Any of these options would help set the Disney mood far more than hanging around the resort.

#3 would be my choice.

Yup, head to a park and let the magic begin. That's why you planned this trip. Head to EPCOT, go to Via Napoli and share some delicious flatbread pizza and salads....a nice light meal. Then hit a few fun attractions, walk over to Beaches and Cream and put your name in for a table. Walk around the BC and YC while you wait or just stare in amazement at the size and beauty of storm-along-bay. Then order 2 kitchen sinks, perfect for 8 of you.

I'd do 1 or 3 - nothing requiring any heavy planning or reservations.

It would be a definite 1 for me, but the Holiday sandwich is mighty darn tasty... :)

We like to eat at a character dinner the first night. It is a great way to gear up for the first day of Disney! We prefer to do Chef Mickey's but we have done other resort character meals as well.

Downtown Disney is another good choice.

We usually get in at 2:30 as well. This past trip we had an ADR at WPC at 6PM but we actually got there early. We c/i at Pop, cleaned up (room was ready) and then went to DtD. walked around did a little shopping and then went to dinner.

The previous trip (got in at the same time) we spent a couple of hours in the pool, cleaned up, and went to dinner at Raglan Road (6PM). Yep, we like DtD for our first night and 6PM ADRs seem to work for our schedule :thumbsup2

Do you have a car? B&C sounds like a cool idea but having to go to a park to catch a bus to/from the resort would turn me off to that idea.

It's hard to try to plan something the first day. Not knowing if your flight will be delayed, how everyone will be feeling after traveling, etc. I would do the Downtown Disney option. :goodvibes

we get in around 4:30 and we will take ME to resort and then get settled and then head to DTD and look around and see what is new and then have dinner at Rain Forest as we do not live remotely close to one. there are many other places to eat in DTD then we just do OOP for the first night. as has been times we just ate at resort if to late arrival. then we walk around some more and head back for early bedtime since we been up most the night before and are ready then to get up our first day and have early character breakfast and hit MK.....for the day. rest of the two week trip is then mostly TS dinng for lunch or dinner. doing Fultons this year for a change
