First night arriving quite late - where to eat?

Hi, guys - just a wee question, but one I've been pondering recently.

We arrive on Monday 12th Nov at 17.10 so I reckon that by the time we get our luggage, through passport control and out to the DLH it'll be about 7-7.30pm at the earliest. Not that late, I know, but with a 4 year old in tow it's getting closer to bedtime than dinnertime. I was wondering what the sensible option is for dinner that night? I don't want to have to spend a fortune but more importantly I don't want to be traipsing round for ages looking for somewhere to dine if lots of places are closed for winter. Plus my DH is coeliac so it needs to be somewhere suitable for him.

What would you recommend? Thank you very much! :lovestruc

ps: 7 weeks and 6 days to go!!

What do you normally eat on an evening ?

You are going to have the hotel restaurants but they are all buffets or t/s

In the Village you have several t/s restaurants but I don't know if you want a full meal

You have EoS which is great for light meals but with your OH being coeliac does that mean no bread as if it's the case he would only have salads

I guess you know that in France eating for special diets is difficult and choices can be few and far between :rolleyes2

We arrived about 7:30 on the 5/11 last year. Stayed at NY. We did end up in Annette's had to wait bout 45 mins for a table, it was a Saturday though. I'd probably just eat at hotel. x

We are normally in late as well. I was always concerned about my ds who has just turned 5. But he is bouncing off the walls when we arrive!! Trying to put him to bed would be much more difficult than staying up late. We normally head to rainforest cafe as its ds favourite eating place, this year we may just head straight into the park as its open later for dreams and grab something there.
There is always room service in DLH. Pricey but nice and ds loved the novelty of food being delivered to your room. x

It's not usually too bad finding things for DH to eat when we're on holiday. Here at home, we typically have fish/meat/chicken with rice/potatoes and veg or salad, lots of stews and bolognaise - pretty much anything, because there are always coeliac-friendly alternatives.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd wondered if eating at the hotel is the easiest options. I'm sure my DD will be too excited to eat wherever we go!

Had you thought about King Ludwigs? I've not tried it but one DISer has just come back with rave reviews about it.

If you wanted an alternative to your hotel, Disney Village could be the answer. It depends what you fancy eating. Ahhhh, decisions, decisions...!!

I don't know if you already been to France so ignore the following if it's the case

Re the above - The special meals at DLP are served in foil trays looking like airline food.

In the hotels you can normally get gluten free things for breakfast and you can always go to Auchan at Val d'Europe as they have a range of products if you aren't bringing your own.

The notion of cross contamination is relative here and there are no warnings like you have in UK for nuts etc on menus.

Here's a couple of accounts of eating GF at DLP

hth :)

Just a thought, is your DH able to eat anything at McDonalds at all? There is one in the Village which would be quick and cheap. I know it's not the best place to eat but might be just what you need to grab a bite on the move if EOS isn't any good.

Regarding the DLH - I guess it depends what time the Park closes (probably quite early) and whether you were hoping to go into it. Obviously there is Inventions which is buffet but you might not want to eat here on your first night if your DS is bouncing off the walls and wanting to be in an open Park (which you can see from the windows!), or is tired!

If you are looking to go into the Park and grab something there - then it might be worth checking with City Hall on your way in. A lot of CS places seem to be closed at odd times at the moment - or you might find yourself heading from one to another otherwise!

Have to say when we arrive at teatime or later, we always just grab a CS bite on the first night and then have the rest of our meals booked for the duration of our stay.

I agree with wmoon - on our arrival night our DDs are never ready for bed - at least not at usual bedtime and certainly don't want to sit in a restaurant for a long time. We learned our lesson very quickly on that one and let them run off their excitement and have a late night. Worked well on our last trip in June as Dreams was really late so they stayed up for that and were then ready to drop! :thumbsup2.

Agree with Carrie though, DLRP (and France) aren't the best dealing with food allergies/intolerances. My DD1 has been dairy intolerant most of her life but is eventually improving. The first few trips to DLRP were hard work! I never had the heart to get her those foil packed meals though - they look awful!

Hope you have fun planning anyway!

Thanks very much for those replies. Carrie, those cards are very helpful, I've never seen them before - it's really kind of you to take the time to post these. The reviews on coeliac DLP dining are interesting too. We'll definitely be taking some snacks with us to make sure he's not short of things to munch.

Unrelated question, but does anyone know to what time the park is likely to be open mid-November?

Park will be opening to 7 or 8pm during the weeks if previous years are to go by.

Hmm - looks like McDonalds may be a no go - just thought if you can manage certain foods in the UK, then perhaps they might have same in France but I know from experience that sometimes it's not as simple as that!

On the park opening - I am waiting to know too - in my heart I think 7 pm, but I am hoping for 8 pm. Even the weekends seem out of kilter with the 20th so not even sure what time that will be either. Doesn't help with our meal planning at all! :lmao:

I'm starting to think about other meals too. Really, really want to do the Blue Lagoon and quite fancy the Rainforest Cafe too. My DH thinks I'm loopy to be planning so far in advance but I just want to make the most of our holiday.

Mine is the same lol! DH wants to try pizza planet because we never went last time, going to ring abit nearer the time and see when it's open (hoping weekend) then we can do pizza planet late lunch and just get a McDonald's or EOS after dreams x
