First night advice

Hi Everyone! You all give such good advice so I thought I'd put a question out there.
We will be visiting DLR the first full week in December. We will be arriving early evening on Monday (I hope to be in the parks by 6) and want to get a bit of time in the parks, most likely Disneyland.
Our touring style is to stay in one land at a time. I know it's not ideal but with two preschoolers and a (although remarkably spry) 70 something year old it's valuable for us to minimize walking. What would be a good place to spend that evening? I was thinking maybe Toontown and then a few Fantasyland rides if we have time, OR maybe the Critter Country/NOS/Adventureland side of the park (I count those all as one area since there's only one or two things in in each land we want to do).
I have heard that that is a good time to go re crowds but I know the candlelight processional is that weekend right before and that Disneyland is always busy now so I am expecting it to be crowded and will be pleasantly surprised if not. That being said do you think either of these areas will be less crowded at that time? Or does anyone have any other good ideas or thoughts? I know I could play it by ear and look at the app when we get there but I am a planner by nature so I'd like to hear any ideas anyone has! Thanks a lot!

minimize walking.....autopia at night is an attraction in its own right, the billboards are bright, the track is more realistic, you can see portions of the park in the dark and the preschoolers will love it as it is not a stimulus overload. There is nemo at night, buzz light year and the monorail at night, once again a different attraction at night. And the walking, the best place in the resort to not have to walk. But here is the real question, what were you doing with the preschoolers before 6:00, because expectations of the preschoolers may be to much that time of the night.

FYI, Toontown closes earlier than the rest of the park, usually by 8 PM due to the Fireworks shows.

Normally I would say Pooh and Pirates because you can knock Pooh out for the trip and Pirates is a bonus on the walk back. Bu this year Santa is next to Pooh and won't be out by 6pm, so you'll be going back anyway. Unless you're planning to see PTN or fireworks, I'd do DCA. With preschoolers you could do some Bug's Land rides and Turtle Talk with Crush. The BVS characters are also out later in DCA. Plus all of those things are close to the front of the park. Then enter DL the next day during daylight so they get a better view of everything on Main St and not people lining up for nighttime shows.
