first holy communion favors

I wouldn't dream of not giving my guests a favor. I love making them, and presenting them at their place setting, or in a pretty basket.

I contacted Rory Cooney...the composer of One Is...and paid to have him burn me copies of that song. He was so kind...he personalized the cd labels with my son's name and added another song...Part of God's Family...for free! He also autographed all the case liners.

At the time I did this he was working at a parish in Illinois.

It wasn't candy, but everyone loved it.

I suggested the GIA...the publishing company...consider offering these via Catholic supply stores, but they didn't take me seriously. Really, people, there is a market for favors that aren't crap that was mass produced in China!

I had our party at home, so you may not be able to do this unless you have or borrow a small picture printer to plug in at the restaurant....but I had bought pretty- but inexpensive 4x6 frames and at our party made sure I got a picture of my daughter with each family in attendance. My husband pretty much stood at the door with my daughter and snapped the pictures as people arrived and he greeted them. Then he slipped the camera card into the printer and printed each picture. My son slipped the pictures into the frames as they came out of the printer and as everyone left we gave them their framed picture of their family with my daughter with a little note from her thanking her for helping to celebrate her day.

We did bubbles (8 for $1) for each of the kids attending, with personalized computer labels that said "God Bless Ryan" "God Bless Emily", etc... and the date. It was a nice day outside and they all went outside with them at the party.

I had candy molds that were circular with a cross in the middle and Holy on top, Communion on bottom. I made them with white chocolate to resemble the wafer that is given at the mass. I just laid them on a tray like at mass.

I made tiny circle stickers with my son's photo on the bottom in his white suit. Also stickers with his Communion date or a cross and put them on the bottom of Hershey's kisses. I had a tiny treat gift box that I bought in a pack of 25 at the dollar store and decorated them with his dates and photo. It was a hit!

We gave each family a small plastic bottle filled with Holy Water. I found Holy Water bottles with crosses on them at a religious supply store.

Does anyone have any cute favor ideas for my daughter's communion next month? I'm planning on having about 30 guests. Something with candy usually seems to be the most well received. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

We had chocolate crosses made and wrapped in clear plastic and tied with my son's name and communion date.
We had white chocolate and milk chocolate.

On the lines of this...I had Cookies by Design to make various cookies, Cross, bible, church, etc and I had them placed in clear bags. Everyone loved it.

It is not insignificant to me. It is pretty much the center of my religion. It's not a cookie either or a cracker. Sorry, if someone says something like "wafers given out at mass" like it is a free sample or something I am gonna correct them.

I don't think the OP's intent was to start an argument. She was simply asking for ideas so let's keep in the spirit of the original post....

We also had a small family & friend gathering after my children received their First Holy Communion. I don't recall having favors - it's not something I would typically think of to do. I think you could use any of the ideas offered and they would be appreciated by your guests. Good luck!

We had the same thing!

I also had "communion" votive candle holders with small white votive candles in a netting bad tied with white and pink/blue (depending if it was dds' or ds's communion) bow.

Ah, there you go. An appropriate gift, if one feels the need to give something. My Mother would approve!

Huh. It said "communion wafer" on the side of the blue tin that my parent's RC church used to use. Of course, I've not seen that in too many years LOL but it said it "back then."

I'll ask my Mom if it's changed.

As for the object being central to a belief system, I would suggest it's the belief that is central and not the object... what the object represents? Definitely. But again, not the object itself. Other religions use a form of communion and do not accept transubstantiation. That does not make their belief less, and does not put their belief beneath those who accept the other way of thinking... just sayin'.
